Sleek

Installation: it was fast, easy and the tool was included.
Design: it looks sleek and innovative.
Set up: the device set up feature was easy.
Cost: the price is worth it considering the savings I will get.
Alexa: I was able to add the nest to alexa to test out thus feature. Nice to have when you do not want to get up and adjust the nest.
App: the app was easy to use.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Nothing negative about Nest and I plan to get more devices to pair with Apple HomeKit.
One small issue is thermostat should have option to run continuously instead I have to turn it on at least once a day for 24hrs

Great savings and personal control

We installed the Nest last week just before leaving for a Redwings Hockey game in Detroit. We turned the heat down to 55°f while we were gone. On the ride home, I used the app to turn the heat up to 68°f. We came home to a nice warm house. Our prior thermostat was programmable, however, overriding the program to reduce energy usage while gone, would have resulted in a chilly return.

Works better than I thought.

We have two HVACs and two programmable thermostats. One was upstairs. We didn't use the programmable feature because our routines are not.......that routine and, if we aren't planning to be around the house for long, no reason to run heat or AC and then take off. But, we do run the fan to circulate air for the upstairs unit and that meant running up and down stairs to turn on or off and sometimes forgetting we had it on. The HVACs are old and fan motors, even in manual on and low speed, consume almost 500 watts! So, we don't like to run unnecessarily.
Had been looking at remote control thermostats for a while and had dropped Nest from list due to comparative pricing. And, we had concerns about internet connection with any of the remote thermostats. Automation electronics can provide way too much information for nefarious purposes and with information going to anonymous locations on the net, who knows who can tap in and see status. Call me paranoid but………………..
Upstairs thermostat failed. So, replacement was necessary. And, COSTCO had Nest 3 on sale. We had Nest CO/smoke detectors that we really love the quality and function and lack of issues in more than two years. So, took a chance and bought two Nest 3s at COSTCO.
We’ve installed and have been using for about two weeks. They are fantastic! Small issue with common wire on installation but that was easily resolved on my own. The app is fantastic and I’m (spouse not so happy about this) am having a great time checking on and adjusting temperatures and settings when away from home. The learning function hasn’t developed a full schedule yet and, it seemed to me that we won’t want to use it anyway because as “smart” as it may be, it cannot have the foreknowledge of our plans that we do and those affect whether we even turn the systems on or not at any given point in time. But, with the home/away sensors, maybe it will work after all. We’ll see.
I was impressed with the sunblock feature which I did not know it had because one thermostat is on a wall where, at certain times of the year, sunlight from a skylight shines directly on it. But alas, although it worked, it turned out that the overall temp in that corner can get up to 78 even on a day when it is only 58 outside (yesterday) and with ecomode set at 50/78, that kicks the AC on during a winter day. For not, I reset upper eco to 80 and we’ll see if that works.
Overall, we’re impressed and loving these two thermostats so far. If that last at least ten years, we’ll be highly satisfied.

Difficult

I’m having difficulty getting it to stay within the temperature range I want it to be. It keeps self adjusting to 78 degrees for cooling. Frustrating!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi John D, thanks for sharing your experience. We're sorry to hear about the difficult experience trying to keep your Nest Learning Thermostat stay within your preferred temperature range.

You may set your Nest Learning Thermostat to Heat-Cool mode to keep it within a temperature range. Your system will only cool your home. Your thermostat will automatically switch your system between heating and cooling as needed to meet any scheduled temperatures or a temperature that you’ve manually selected.

If you still encounter an issue, you may try to reset your Nest Learning Thermostat. This will erase all settings and you may need to set it up once more. To reset, go to Settings > and then Reset > then choose All Settings.

Too techie for me

I’m not impressed with the learning part of this device. In theory it seems like a nice feature but in reality, it’s a pain. I’ve had to turn off that part and create my own schedule. I do enjoy the ease of the apt, but my iPad and iPhone are different and I don’t like that.

Fully featured and great to look at!

We just installed a new HVAC system and still had a dial thermostat. This is quite the upgrade! Now we can see the temp from any device with an internet connection and make adjustments, and it also knows automatically if I'm home or not to save on energy. I really feel like I'm getting the most out of my new HVAC unit by pairing it with the Nest.
I would recommend this to a friend!
