So far, so good

So far using our Nest has been great and I expect to save some money. Our old basic thermostat was a pain to use and we always forgot to turn it down at night or when leaving for work. With the Nest we remember most of the time and with the away assist it automatically turns it down when we leave. It seems like it might be more accurate, or at least different, than our old thermostat. We've been setting the temperature 4-5 degrees lower on the Nest versus the old one and are just as comfortable. The only issue we had was with the screws during installation. Make sure the long screws that secure it to the wall properly thread through the mounting bracket. One of ours didn't and then broke off in the bracket. Other than that it was super easy to install.

Nest Learning Thermostat

It was fairly easy to install. Just make sure you know your thermostat wire colors and codes. If you’re not sure, watch a Nest Learning Thermostat installation video on “You Tube”. The video will help you understand your wire codes and where to connect your existing thermostat wires. Once that is correct the rest of the set-up is pretty easy.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Energy Consumption Down 7% YOY

We have three (3) Nest learning thermostats at our home in TX. All else equal, at $.095 (nine and half cents) per KwH and Texas weather being what it is, our first year of Nest ownership more than paid for the units. Our annual consumption dropped 7%, and that was without knowing what I was doing. We expect to eek out a bit more savings this year. Great product and easy to learn.

The Nest is "smart," in that it learns your patterns quickly, although it is simple to override as needed. Most importantly it saves energy - and money - and monitors your usage and provides regular data on that usage. The Nest is attractive, easy to use and gives you the ability and motivation to reduce energy consumption and save money. I wake to a house that is warm and comfortable rather than chilly AND have reduced fuel consumption. Highly recommended.

Best, Easiest Decision Ever

Heard from a family member how well this worked and how easily they saved money each month. Saw a great deal at Target, including a Google Mini Home (FREE) and $100 rebate from my local electric supplier and would have been silly to pass it up. Installed in minutes and saved a ton on my first bill (compared to my last similar size home without Nest). Love the ability to control from anywhere!

I work in property management. These thermostats allow us to monitor the temps of our units. It stops misuse and can keep us informed if a furnace goes down.
