Basic Fridge, Great Performance
on October 10, 2012

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have this fridge in my apartment, and while it was the cheapest, and most basic, I think it's an excellent fridge. There is so much space in the fridge and freezer. I've had refrigerators before that have ice machines in them and there is absolutely no freezer space! I love all of the shelves and their ability to be moved around and shifted to accommodate more. The quality of the fridge and freezer is also great. Nothing ever gets frozen in the refrigerator (which I've also had happen) and everything stays frozen while in the freezer (have also had my things slightly melted yet still frozen before.) Overall, this basic fridge performs cold little miracles!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Freezer does not work well

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my secondary fridge, which I keep in the basement. The freezer has never worked very well, and I shut it when I lost power for 8 days with Hurricane Sandy. Last week I turned it back on, and @ days ago put fresh meat in the freezer. As of today, it is still not thoroughly frozen. I called a repairman to check it out; this fridge is only 2 years old. Very disappointed.

Bad Drawer
on August 18, 2013

Bad drawer- rear half cannot be accessed unless the drawer is lifted past the stopper tabs, at which point the drawer falls out-- before the end of the drawer, as the side rails do not go the full length of the drawer.
Also, the store prominently posted the "Made in America" card, and another was in each of the floor models (personally thanking for purchasing a Made in America product), but when my refrigerator arrived it clearly said MADE IN MEXICO.

Good decision

I purchased this refrigerator in February. I had 2 door side by side for many years, but decided that the freezer space in this one would lend itself to larger objects better. Actually I like the wider areas in the refrigerator and freezer. Everything seems to be working fine. One small glitz is that the cheese drawer is a little difficult to open. I haven't asked for advice yet. I purchased GE because of the past performance and service in the many years past that I have had with them. They are so much better than most companies that I have dealt with before.

Good Fridge

We have had this fridge for a couple of months now and it fits our needs well. It is the same size and layout as our previous GE fridge, 20 years on the last one. I like the light in both the cold and the icebox. It is quiet and makes no noticeable noise. The doors will close by themselves if you open them less than halfway, annoying when loading groceries, great every other time. We use the recommended settings for the cold and icebox and it holds temp well, both boxes are full of food.
Design wise I am comparing this unit to one from 20 years ago. Build quality is the same, durable, sturdy, and straightforward throughout the unit. The shelves are all adjustable, and split giving more options to configure the box to suit. As I said before, the light above and below is great. But, there are things I don't like in the new model. The door shelves do not hold as much product as the previous unit, they're molded in a way that reduces the total volume of the shelf. This unit has a butter tray that is molded into the door, and it's lip to retain things is rudimentary at best, if you leave the butter tray lid open, stuff will fall out. The controls and light are convenient for adjusting or replacing but hinder the headspace access to the top shelf. The shelf fronts and support arms are large and again reduce the access to any shelves below.
It seems that attractive design and 'modern' looks have trumped the engineer in maximizing the utility and space in this or any newer fridge of any make. I trust GE and like this fridge, it is a good continuation of a tried and true model line. Now lets see if we get another 20 years from it!

within 7 years performance down warranty issue

within 7 years performance down not providing enough pressure to make the cools in top & bottom portion. Canada has 10 years warranty but the USA has 5 years on compressure. Unfair warranty.
