I've been brewing on and off for 35 years. Never in that time have I come across a home brewed beer kit that not only tastes like beer, but has started to trump some of my British beer purchases such as Black sheep. It's becoming my go to beer of choice. I don't know why so much home-brew tastes like swill, but this tastes like an award winner.

First off, MrBeer makes brewing so so simple. I have enjoyed each and every moment of the process. I am also a huge fan of the Diablo IPA! Great beer and great products!

“What? Another New Favorite?”

This was my first time trying this basic Mr. Beer variety (18th home-brew overall). I’ve come to appreciate the IPA style generally in recent years, and since beginning & learning with Mr. Beer stuff I’ve tried several of their IPAs. Some other reviewers here have compared this one to “Long-Play IPA” – which had become a previous favorite of mine, so I was looking forward to trying the “Diablo IPA” alternative.
And so … Success! Good head, good fizz, good aroma. Liked the color a lot, perhaps resembling maple syrup. Might be described as amber/copper/light brown, SRM ~12-13.
It has a very nice rich balanced flavor at the first taste (possibly a “nuttiness”?) then a nice not-unpleasant hoppy bitterness follows. Really liked that combination; and it seemed to remain consistent through each bottle.
I may also express appreciation of the shorter, relatively-basic preparation sequence too, compared to some of the more complicated varieties. So 2 weeks in the fermenter, then 3 weeks of carbonation & conditioning in the bottles, and that seemed to work out just fine: Ready to enjoy.
Concluding, then: Almost all good qualities according to my preferences, and no perceived negatives. I’m reluctant to give this variety full marks just yet, until I try it at least once more; which I will soon. Still, it may have edged into being my new Mr. Beer favorite. Very pleased to give it an overall personal grade of A-.

Good beer but not really an IPA

I brewed this beer over two months ago and am just now enjoying it. It was worth the wait. I had it in the fermenter the usual 3 weeks before bottling. I used the Booster packet also. The it spent 2 weeks in the bottle at cellar temperature. After 2 more weeks in the fridge, I tried a bottle. It was quite unspectacular. I had read other reviews saying this beer needs additional bottle time for the flavor to come out. Those reviews were right on. After 2 more weeks in the fridge, this beer developed some complexity and smoothness that makes it a very easy - drinking beer.
That said, I don't consider this to be much of an IPA. There was very little hoppy bitterness to it. I see why several reviewers who said they don't like IPAs enjoyed this. Still, I will brew this again as the result is a great-tasting craft beer.

My first brew ever. Came out more like a winter ale than an ipa. Was still good though.im sure I messed something up but still very drinkable.

This is the 4th kit I have made. Added a Smooth LME pack & 1/2oz Citra hops to the last 5min of the boil. Dry hopped with 1oz of Citra LupuLN2 for 7 days. Very nice aroma, dark & malty & fruity. Next time I would go with the Pale LME as it was a hair too dark for my liking, although still very good.
