Great Head Unit With Room For Improvement

I upgraded to this HU coming from one of the top of the line JVC HUs and so far I have been quite pleased with its quality. The screen while very good, is not impressive though. Also, the main user interface is quite boring and dull looking from what one would expect from a $700+ HU, but I am hoping for firmware updates somewhere along the road so it is something still open for debate. Now for the good, the sound quality on this baby is SUPERB, light years better than what I had with my previous HU, which was also a very expensive one. Search for reviews for this and you will find I am not joking. There are also plenty of sound tweaking options at your disposal which lead to a pleasing EQ experience since we all have different tastes in how we listen to our music. The background animations while playing music are also extremely enjoyable and of really high quality, they specially shine when driving around at night and have gotten plenty of compliments because of this. Playback for DVDs is exceptional, with fast loading of discs and great picture quality and sound. Bluetooth is also exceptional, and most people will not notice much difference in sound quality when using this vs usb cable. The rest of my sound system is also top notch, so I can pretty much verify this. Overall I am very pleased with this HU but do expect further updates so we can make the most out of this high quality piece of equipment.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Nice features better for Android users

The bluetooth is great, sound is pretty good, Mirror link is for android devices and I have an iPhone. The store recommended this but I would not have purchased it if I knew that the iPhone interface did not show the screen without using the HDMI cable and does not work while driving. I bought it for the 7 inch screen for the navigation apps on my phone. I could have lived with a 6 inch screen if I knew I still needed to look at my phone.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Menus are easy to navigate. Settings are easy to find. Navigation works great! Movies are a dream. Be sure to keep the software updated and this thing will perform great!

I bought this unit to use with Galaxy S5, but no mirrorlink, maps, or bluetooth audio support. Sony app does not work either :(
Decent device. I bought this. It has hard way to install software to setup.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I've been a big fan of the XAV lineup for some time now. Originally has an XAV-W1 and fell in love with the 7" screen, time alignment and 6 channel outputs (that's right, 6!!) When it came time to upgrade, I picked up a new XAV712HD in order to get the Bluetooth and Screen Mirror features. Unfortunately, with these upgrades came a few downgrades. 1) There's no more auto antenna (the old XAV-W1 would activate the power antenna ONLY when the radio was used. With the XAV712HD, it would activate the power antenna whenever it is turned on, so the antenna will go up if you're watchng a DVD or listening to Pandora or whatever, not just the radio 2) You lose the Karaoke mode the XAV-W1 had I know it sounds like a gimmick, but my family truly enjoyed the karaoke mode. 3) You also lose the center channel. Most never really used this feature, but I I actually added a 7 speaker center channel to the system in my Land Cruiser and it sounded spectacular with my XAV-W1, but with the XAV712HD, I'm forced ot use the CSO, which is like a ghost center channel. It sounds good as well, but I'm annoyed that I lost the center channel output as that was one of the main reasons I chose XAV-W1 Apart from that, the XAV712HD has been a great head unit, but it does have its drawbacks. The screen mirror is only compatible with a handful of older phones, so needless to say, I don't use this. My Note 3, Note 4 Edge and Galaxy S7 all have to reconnect manually via bluetooth (something that is done automagically with other head units) I have this head unit in two of my vehicles and one of them has a random touch screen issue as seen in the video below. Since the head unit has a 3 year warranty, I will be sending it in for repairs over the next week or so.
