Great when it works, but if it doesn't, don't plan on eating. If it doesn't engage with the can properly, you will be left with a half opened can. Most recently had to use vise grips to get the can half open and then left a torn can top so definitely not safer.

I tried using this can opener on several size cans and it does not work. The handle makes the can spin around but without cutting into the lid. Piece of junk, in my humble opinion. I thought OXO products were well designed but this one was very disappointing and a waste of money.

Works great for about a year, then the teath that grip the can start to wear down and it no longer can rotate the can. Not really worth the investment.

It is not as easy to latch the cutters onto the can. And I always need the littke can lifter points to get the lid off. Not easy. And the handle hits the side of an oval sardine can, making it hard to turn the knob. Returning it.

Durable best can opener

Oxo best manual can opener I ever owned. Very durable and easy to use I’ve had this one for almost ten years never messed up always opens cans so easy. Good grips turns easy, I would never buy another kind this is best. Electric no way takes up to much room this is portable easy to use and always dependable. I would recommend to everyone.

My favorite can opener.

I love this can opener. It cuts underneath the top edge of the can, and you use the claw attached to remove the lid. It is the only can opener that I use. Here are the two cons:
1) Over time, the surface of the can opner becomes gummy and unpleasant to the touch. I wish that the company use a more durable plastic.
2) It is a bit hard to line up the opener to the can. However, once it has the proper alignment, it is good to go.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] submitted a warranty on a 2 handled smooth edge opener(which i loved), they replaced it with a much cheaper model that has a single handle and much harder to use.
