I got this lens with my EOS 7D, and at first, I thought it was amazing, probably because I recently upgraded and though everything about the kit was superior to my last kit. However, I noticed one MAJOR flaw right out of the getgo, THE LENSE ALWAYS SLIDES OUT INTO FULL ZOOM. This lens is nice but if you ever hold the lens (with or without the camera) at anything near a vertical angle, the lens just slides loose like its a piece of cheap plastic. All in all, it is an average lens. Not a great one, and GOOD is probably generous.
Pros: Fast auto-focus
Cons: Semi-sharp images, lens slips into full zoom
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Still Need More

Reviewers tend to pigeonhole this lens as an average performer. However, it has been my experience that its various strengths and weaknesses are specific and significant. That is to say, where it might be stellar for certain purposes, for others, it can leave much to be desired. Consider the individual pros and cons carefully before making your decision.
Pros: Fast auto-focus, good telephoto reach, value, low distortion, excellent color and contrast, smooth zoom action, little or no zoom creep, resistant to flare, low chromatic aberrations, exhibits little vignetting (crop body)
Cons: Semi-sharp images, image stabilization slow to stabilize, 28mm not wide (crop body), inner barrel wobbles
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

OK kit lens, poor build quality

This is an OK lens. The build quality is lacking a lot, although the images are acceptable and the IS definitely helps when it's needed. I am very aggravated by the constant lens creep and the slop in the front element - at least 1/8".
I received this lens in a 7D kit. If I would have known the build quality would be this poor, I would have just purchased the body only.
Pros: Fast auto-focus
Cons: Poor build quality, lens creep
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Have had this lens for my Rebel Xt now for about a month. My use of the lens so far has been for a Mississippi Kite sighting in my neighbors yard. Using it to it's full 135mm has broght the family up close and personal. Cropping and enlarging on the computer has really enhanced what I shot. Without the sharp focus to begin with I wouldn't have the results I got. I will find many uses to use the lens for more vacation shots as well as people groups. I am really pleased with the results I have obtained and look forward to more of the same.
Pros: fast focusing in auto mode
Cons: none at this point
I would recommend this to a friend!

I have had this lens for about 2 years and had trouble with the barrel becomming loose ever since I got it. I had it fixed at no charge just after I got it. It is now very loose and I need to get it fixed AGAIN. I think overall it would be a great lens if it did not have this problem (note I did get this lens a few years ago and the problem might have been fixed by now) I hope

At first the lens challenged the areas that I wanted to shoot in. After a few minutes of toying with the lens and my settings in the camera I was able to learn to fully manipulate the lens to my advantage as well as my cameras advantage. The image quality in low light seemed to be an issue but proved to be user error and was easily overcome after a few shots and setting adjustments. The images are sharp and far far from soft as some have said but that is my experience with the lens and my experience shooting as well. Facial features on tight and close ups are absolutely amazing, super sharp and super tight. It has proven to be a great buy and I would not only suggest it as a great weapon in the arsenal in your bag but as a must have the macro and well as it being a great all around 18-135. Just amazing It would have been perfect if the lens did not slide with the downward angling of the camera to adjust to that you have to learn to hold it to keep the focus not a big deal only when you don't remember and it slides and the shot is off
Pros: Fast auto-focus, Superior build quality, Super-sharp images, works great with my modified settings
Cons: lens tends to slide with down grade shots
I would recommend this to a friend!

good when it was new

The lens was good when new, but over time the lens barrel became loose, the photos became fuzzyer in time.
sent it to have it fixed and calibrated the barrel isn,t as loose as it once was, but one side or the other of the images shot from it are extremily out of focas. I don't think it's a good lens for professionals that shoot a lot.
Pros: the price is right
Cons: doesn't hold up
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
