Way too hot
on July 24, 2015
Posted by: Praha3
I must agree with those that find this cooks too hot. I've never used above the "low" setting and the food is constantly burning. It keeps cooking--actually cooking--on the "keep warm" setting. In fact, this morning I tried cooking clotted cream on "keep warm" and after an hour or so it was boiling and scorched. Bummer.
Cons: too hot

On your Crock-Pot, both the low and high settings will reach a maximum temperature of approximately 215 degrees Fahrenheit, but they cycle differently in that the low setting cycles off of that temperature more frequently. Therefore, the High setting will still cook the food in a shorter period of time than the Low setting will. On the warm setting, your Crock-Pot will be between 165 degrees and 175 degrees Fahrenheit. Please remember that these are all approximate temperatures and they can vary depending on what you are cooking. The Crock-Pot can also boil on High and Low. We do recommend that you always fill your slow cooker at least 2/3 - 3/4 of the way full, including at least one cup of liquid or sauce. You may have to adjust your cook times accordingly, especially if you are using older Crock-Pot recipes, or adapting regular recipes for Crock-Pot use. This will prevent the food from drying out and burning. If you feel that your unit is still cooking to high, please call us at (800) 323-9519; Monday through Saturday from 8 AM to 8 PM, EST.

High Hopes leads to HOT.. (WAY too hot)

After accidentally breaking my last slow cooker I was trying to remain positive; after all it was almost Christmas + the weather was turning cold(er) = slow cooking season... a man's best friend! Especially those that work from home and love the ritual of a morning cup of Joe and mixing up a newly discovered recipe! This could have been a blessing in disguise. My wife gave me the green light to find our next slow cooker and I was on a mission to fill that empty spot in the cabinets as soon as possible.
I immediately turned to crock-pot... who wouldn't.
All I really wanted at the time was a high, low and warm setting + a lid locking mechanism. We carry our slow cooker around as if it was the family pet. My last one didn't have the lid locking feature so really, this was the only 'real' enhancement. I'm a software guy and was on the fence for any remote control features etc....
I found it! The Crock-Pot® 6-Quart Programmable Cook & Carry™ Slow Cooker. I read each and every review. Unfortunately I let my immediate excitement get away from the previous reviews around the warm setting. Or should I say, lack thereof.
I have no idea what the problem is - there is NO such thing as warm. Or should I say, there is no cooling effect. What I mean - If you simply start off with warm, it'll hang down in the warm(ish) range. If you think for a second you are going to start anything on High and then move down into the warm range, forget it. This won't happen unless you physically unplug it. Low even boils water....
This is a deal breaker for my family. We've tried pot roast, chili, enchiladas, bbq, soups all with similar results. It'll cook just fine - but you better be ready to unplug and eat because there is no... warm or slow. This only knows HOT... very HOT. So we are only able to use it on the weekend when we can monitor everything closely. This defeats the purpose of 'slow' cooking!
Now i'm back to the drawing board and unfortunately have been directed by the boss lady of the house to look at other brands.. :(
Maybe it's time I step away from HOT, LOW & WARM and go with a more temperature / time based model. At any rate, the hunt is back on and we're in full on slow cooking season. I have 0 time to waste....

I've always trusted the Crock-Pot brand. I bought this, a year ago and have had problems ever since with it. The "Low" setting acts more like "extra, extra HIGH". It will literally boil water, fast. I've had to play around with it and schedule meals and cook times appropriately. I would NOT trust this thing on it's own- even programmed while I am away from my home. It gets hotter than heck on the lowest setting... Like I said. I've never even had to use the high setting, as I am now paranoid. Take note, and prepare yourself if you decide to purchase this particular one!!!

Stoneware Replacement Not Available

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Got this crockpot as a wedding present in late 2013. Loved using it, but less than 2 years later the stoneware developed a hairline crack on the bottom which leaks while cooking, creating a sticky burnt mess. Wouldn't be a big problem except Crock-Pot no longer stocks the replacement stoneware that fits this model. Bottom line: don't buy this model of crockpot. If your stoneware cracks like mine did, you won't be able to replace it.

While not unhappy with this purchase, I am somewhat disappointed that the crock is so loose in the overall container, that I worry that someone is not pay attention to the sizing and the value of a tight fit to maximize the heat used to cook food.

This product does not cook in time provided

When I first bought this crock pot and attempted to cook a meal, I was extremely disappointed. But having used crock pot in the past, I did not blame it on the pot. I was living in an older house and assumed that the wiring was not correct and not providing proper voltage. I tried moving pot to different outlets with no luck.
I recently moved into a newer home and was anxious to use my crock pot. I threw together ingredients for beef stew and set it on high for 6 hours. checked on it and nothing was done. reset on high for 4 hours. after 1 1/2 hours i checked on it and it was clear that my issues are with the pot not house wiring. I ended up pouring ingredients into a pot on the stove because I really wanted to eat tonight, not sometime tomorrow.
Very disappointed in this product. It seems crock pot doesn't mean what it used to mean.
Cons: doesn't heat up properly in order to cook food.
