Quality that you cannot match!

As soon as this product was announced I pre-ordered it straight away. After going through many various brands of sports cameras, I have finally found one that meets my needs in a professional environment. The build quality is robust, the screen is easy to navigate, and the battery last exceptional times, and is also the same battery found in many of Sony's standard digital cameras (i.e RX100II). I use this on a small quadcopter for aerial cinematography, it captures crisp detail, and most importantly while at such heights, when in direct sunlight handles it really well. The 240fps feature is a feature that definitely will become a standard across all cameras of this category, visually stunning! With stabilisation turned on, you have less of a wider shot (120degrees) but worth the trade off for it provides smooth motion. The most interesting feature is the ability to shoot XAVC mode which allows you to have high bit-rate video and also included time-code for post production. If you are going to shoot in XAVC mode (PRO) make sure you have a fast enough micro SD card to go with it for slower cards will not be up to the task. Audio from the unit is clear, even with heavy low frequencies playing at music festivals, there was no crackling or distortion. What would be great for this camera is to have options in video mode for wide-narrow settings, to allow for a non fisheye look, which could hopefully come out in a future firmware update. All in all, amazing camera! Wristband screen is convenient for composing the shot, and the ability to control up to 5 of them from the one band, makes this THE camera to go for in multicam set ups.
Pros: Quality, Features
Cons: Value for Money

Great for Holidays!

I purchased the camera late last year (2014) with the intention to capture my scuba diving and snorkelling adventures while on holiday. Little did I know that the camera would capture much more than that.
Before I get into any more detail I should probably state that I also had the following mounts and accessories: Head mount, chest mount, and the underwater dive housing (60m). Now let’s get started.
Since my original intentions were to use the camera in and around the water I’ll start there.
My first use of the camera was snorkelling; I popped the camera into the included water proof case and used the head mount attachment to clip it onto the side of my goggles. The head mount attachment worked quite well and felt comfortable. I was in the water for about 40mins and had captured a fair bit of footage. Excited I grabbed my phone and used the Play Memories app to transfer the footage to my phone. One hundred percent ticked over and I was ready to press play. Everything looked great, the sky ……vivid, the sand……golden, and the water……crystal.
However,
As soon as I submerged the camera in water everything changed. The footage was all blurry and out of focus. I then realised the waterproof case was the problem due to the curved part of the case covering the lens. I swapped out the included case and used the dive housing for my next snorkel. Being that the dive house has a flat face I was confident that the issues would be alleviated. After second snorkel session I transferred the footage again and pressed play. The sky ……vivid, the sand……golden, the water……crystal, and the underwater footage……
Amazing
The footage I captured was absolutely stunning. Everything was there in great detail from the intricate details of the coral to the vibrant colours of the fish. The flat face certainly did the trick. However I believe that a flat lens should be built into the included waterproof case. This would prevent blurry underwater footage straight of the box.
Impressed with the footage I started using the camera at every moment I could with any combinations of the mounts I had at my disposal. Personal stand out for me was using the camera with the chest mount while hiking. The image stabilisation was really put to work, due to the nature of uneven surfaces however I watched the footage afterwards it was almost like I was gliding around the hiking trail. The image stabilisation is this camera is no joke, it’s awesome. On the odd occasion the footage would suddenly jerk either to the left or right but I imagine this is probably due to the stabilisation over correcting itself.
The timelapse feature is something I played around with a fair bit while on holiday in particular I recorded driving, the dinner table, and sunsets. All of these worked wonderfully. However the one gripe that I have is that once the camera is mounted there is no way to access the charging port to extend the timelapse period beyond the battery life. Other than that it works a treat.
At the end of my holiday I ended up capturing much more than my snorkelling and diving adventures I ended up capturing memories that will stick with me for as long as my hard drives stay alive and I remember to back up.
I would definitely recommend this camera to anyone in the market. If you have any questions about the camera please let me know and I’ll be glad to answer them.

There are a lot of great things about this action camera, but the thing I like the most is the ability to turn this action camera into a handy cam, the image stabilizer and low light sensitivity.
The remote control on the other hand, is completely useless, connection is slow and you can preview the image/video on it.
