We had to have under cabinet design.

This unit compared to the old Black & Decker Spacesaver toaster oven we had to replace is very lacking on features. Our old unit had broiling, one side toasting, slide out rack and tray. The new one toasts and heats. Come on Black and Decker bring back your old toaster oven that this one replaced.

We've owned the prior generation of this product for 15+ years. And we love it! It's reliable, multi-functional, and unintrusive in our gourmet kitchen. We appreciate that we can easily check the food through the window while it's cooking AT EYE LEVEL. We need every square inch of counter space and the toast oven allows us more. We now ready to buy ANOTHER ONE!

I am happy with how this toaster oven leaves space on my counter, and it works well. I do think it is over priced and I was puzzled that it did not include a tray. For the price they should include two!

Difficult Installation

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this unit as a replacement for a 25 year old Black & Decker Spacemaker that was still working. The old one was still serving us well but was showing some wear. Installation went smoothly until it was time to mount the hood and then things went south quickly. My cabinet has an overhang that is 1" high so I added the two 1/2" spacers just as the manual calls for. Oops, whoever wrote the manual forgot to account for the extra 3/4" height of the hood. When I add that extra distance, even the longest provided screw is about 1/2" too short. Fortunately I kept the screws from the old oven, but they were about 1/2" too long so I cut them and was able to use them. Getting the rear screws in with 1 3/4" of spacers was next to impossible, but again I was fortunate to have saved the spacers from the old unit. The old ones are designed to grip the screws so you don't need three hands to install the unit. It looks like someone at B&D tried to save a few pennies on the spacers.
I've finally got my unit mounted and ready to use. Hopefully I won't experience the problem of the oven coming loose from the hood that others have experienced. Time will tell and I'm hopeful this unit will function better than it installed. I'll give an update later on that.
My advice to you: Have someone actually try to follow the directions in the manual before you publish it.

How to mount toaster to under cabinet heatshield
on February 13, 2019

I believe I have FINALLY figured out how to mount the toaster to the under cabinet heatshield. (See attached picture). The REAR of the toaster hooks onto the rear brackets as everyone seems to know. As for the FRONT hook up, it appears that the "Outer" 2 fixed metal tabs (the ones closest to outside edges of the toaster) fit into the groove and the "Inner" 2 tabs go ON THE TOP edge of the toaster above the groove to create tension which helps to hold it in place. So far, knock on wood, it is holding very securely and has not fallen loose since being installed this way. As the instructions state, you do have to pull the toaster forward to get the two outter clips to rest firmly in the groove. (I also had to bend the inner two tabs up a bit to get them to sit securely with some tension on the top edge toaster over the groove.) A picture is worth a thousand words.

Mounting system is defective!!!

We've owned Black and Decker under the counter toaster oven before and loved it. Never had any issues. It was time to have it replaced. So we we purchased the New Spacemaker Under the Cabinet Toaster Oven. After one week of install the toaster oven falls off the bracket when used. Therefore, it is sitting on our counter. Please contact me and let me know if there is a way to make sure the toaster oven can be secured in the bracket and not fall off.

I have owned two of these in the past for a total of 37 years...I was upset there was not one available last year when my other one no longer worked..I was so happy when I purchased this on line...I am in love all over again...I do not have room on my kitchen counter so this is the perfect appliance...love how it toasts and bakes, and I do not need to light my oven...Thanks Black and Decker!!!

Does the Job, but Complicated Control/Installation

Received as a gift. I was surprised at the price of this unit when I came looking for the "I can't believe it's not included" tray. The controls are not simple enough to figure out just by looking at the icons on the control panel. I've never had to read a manual to operate a simple toaster oven. Just not user-friendly in my opinion.
Now the installation. As another customer mentioned, if you have an overhang of 1", then you're screwed (pun intended). Spacers are irrelevant if the screws wont reach the threaded holes. Almost zero chance of finding a screw to that's the correct length and has the same type of threads that will fit the holes. I looked.
You can throw the paper template away at this point. Since I wasn't going to wait a week for the chance I get the correct screws for my issue, I took matters into my own hands. Forget the holes. I just got four screws long enough to get through the metal rack. My overhang is 1" (all around). The plastic washer on top is probably 1/8". The rack is another 1/2" or 3/8". The shelf another 1/8" maybe. It comes with 2 1/2" screws (the long ones). For some reason, I couldn't find 2 3/4" screws so I had to get 3" length.
I first drilled four holes through the metal, positioned the mounting plate and duct-taped into place. Then with an awl (or anything pointy enough to fit), I made marks so I knew where to drill. On the rack itself, just make sure the metal "grippers" that come up through the metal plate are TIGHT so there's NO movement at all. I used a pair of pliers to bend them a little to tighten their grip. The oven attaches to these pieces and would normally be supported by the screws, if they were long enough, and the cabinet itself. Drill your holes following the marks you just made. For the less experienced, you need to be mindful of the size of the hole you drill so that it's just large enough for your new screws to fit easily though.
In my case, the rack fit just inside the "overhang" so I had to use the spacers. For me it was two large and two small. Drop the screws down through the supplied plastic washers. I used a simple piece of tape to hold the washers up under the cabinet to allow getting the screws through the holes I drilled through the metal plate. Good to have some tape already to go so you can hold the mounting plate in place while you get the other screws through their holes. Now I added large metal washers then the nuts I bought that fit the new screws. Boom. Tight as a drum.
On other complication for me was my 3" screws. They're too long and won't let the oven fit into it's brackets. You could use a hacksaw, but it's difficult in that tight space. I happen to have a Dremel rotary tool. I was able to cut the extra length off pretty quickly, but I did show myself with a LOT of sparks. It was New Years Days so I didn't mind.
I think the only problem people are having with getting the oven to mount at this point, is you have to put the back end in first, the use a bit of force to pull the oven by its front legs so you can get it to "hook" into place at the front. I didn't get it the first time, and I'm good with handyman stuff. Once I pulled a little harder, it went right into place.
Did I mention there is NO tray with this unit? That blows my mind. The name of the product has the word OVEN in it, not just toaster.
Spouse 1, "Hey honey, let's make some quick french fries or cookies in our new toaster oven, it's easy..... oops. Sorry. We can't. It didn't come with a tray."
Souse 2, "That's weird."
Seriously?
