Fun, easy to use learning system
on September 27, 2016

We just got the LeapStart and my six-year-old son loved it right out of the box.
The LeapStart is a learning system that opens like a laptop and uses spiral bound interactive books. The spiral bound books were easy enough to place that he is able to do it himself (which is absolutely essential for my independent learner).
My son was using the system independently within minutes, turning it on, switching books and figuring out how to play with ease. His favorite book so far is the Atlas. I loved listening to him solve story problems in the Let's Play Math sampler book.
This system is a cross between a talking book and a tablet. I like that it is self-contained, has an easy to find and use volume button and is easy to use. My son loves it because it is fun!
Pros: Educational, Fun for kids, Good for on-the-go play, Grows with child

A Treat for Ages 2-7!

I received the products mentioned to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own. With that being said, my 5 year old son absolutely loves his LeapFrog LeapStart learning system. It is on the larger side, but it is light enough and portable so it is no problem for him to carry. The STEM books and other books that we tried were amazing and kept my son captivated and engaged. It is perfect for my emergent reader, helping him to match words with sounds and so on. The easy grip stylus is large enough for his small fingers to control.
has two different levels within it so that it can grow with your child as well!
I love that the books are reusable, and I love the extra book storage compartment built into the back of the LeapStart. The carry handle and book storage compartment make it perfect to bring along in the car or out to dinner. My son occasionally allows his 2 year old sister to use his LeapStart, and she enjoys it almost more than he does. She repeats the words that are said and is beginning to learn the names of objects. It's really a treat!

Great for Independent Learning

I'm a homeschooling mom of a preschooler and a first grader. This is my first year homeschooling two children at once, and I've had some struggles in how to balance both needs at once without resorting to just letting them play a game on a tablet (we do use tablets often, but some games seem very passive to me OR require my full attention).
This product is excellent for a hands on option that they can use independently, and that works at their level. They're using a real book and a stylus, but connecting to the system guides them through reading, math, and STEM activities on their own level. The system is easy to use - open, insert book, power on, go. Both girls can operate it easily, and when it's time for them to switch, all they need to do is swap books. No logging in and out. I can work with one child as the other interacts with the Leapstart, and then switch off.
It's affordable, durable and gets good battery life. When compared to a tablet it's an absolute steal, AND it doesn't let the kids zone out. They're learning independently and engaged. I highly recommend it!

Screen-Free Learning Fun That Grows w/ Your Child
on December 12, 2016

"Disclosure: We received this item free of charge for review purposes. Regardless, all opinions expressed are our own."
I've been on the hunt lately for screen-free learning activities and fun for our toddler. While we love some of the fun kids tablets currently on the market, it's equally as fun and important to have screen-free activities for preschoolers to explore, too.
We are absolutely loving the new LeapStart™ Interactive Learning System by LeapFrog! It's a wonderful screen free tool for early learning, that actually grows with your child. There are two versions of this interactive system currently available; "Preschool" and "Kidergarten & 1st Grade." While our soon to be 3 year old is using the Kidergarten & 1st Grade" version [pictured], it accommodates all of the preschool "level 1 & 2" books, too. You simply need to connect the learning system to your computer [via the on-board USB port] and download the content for each of the books, from the LeapFrog website. It only took a few minutes [it was super simple] and I love that the system will continue to grow with him through 1st grade.
We added quiet a few books to his LeapStart library, and he's been having a blast exploring the many page elements and activities offered in each book title.
He's learning everything from shapes, to colors, to numbers, to early geography, to early handwriting skills, and MORE! As a mom, I love that the LeapStart actually requires the fine motor skills of holding the pencil/pen-like stylus, to navigate the pages/activities. I also adore that this fun and engaging system holds his attention for 20-25 minutes at a time; fairly remarkable for his age!

Great For Little Learners
on August 6, 2016

My boys are 6 and 3...my 6 year old is heading into 1st grade and is in gifted & talented. LeapFrog products are among his favorite products. He loves anything he can learn from. They were both excited when we pulled it out of the box. The first thing he noticed is the pen was just like his leap reader...then proceed to ask if it would work with his Leap reader books. But as we explored the Leapstart books he noticed it's less reading and more learning..."like my workbooks".
He asked my why it needed the big case instead of just the pen and books like the LeapReader, and I agree, I don't think the case was needed. It can fit one book inside and one in an outside pocket, so it would be nice & convenient for traveling, but takes up a bit of room just laying around the house.
Like any other LeapFrog product, I had to set up the book on the computer before they could "read" them, so it's a good thing there were two built-in activities to keep them busy while they downloaded.
Overall, my little man loves it...it can grow with him, and it's something my 3-year-old cam grow into...and playing together, he's helping his little brother learn the alphabet, animals, even addition. I would recommend this product to family & friends with children in preschool & elementary. *I received this product for review purposes only, however all opinions & experiences are 100% my own.

Unique Product

We have always been a fan of LeapFrog products, but I'm a tad impartial when it comes to the LeapStart. It's a great concept but honestly it's rather heavy and bulky for the little ones. My youngest is 5yrs. old and is currently in 1st grade. He has always been loved his LeapFrog Products. I mean this kid still plays with some that he's had for years. They are so wonderful when it comes to learning. However, he isn't that crazy about the LeapStart either only because of the size.
The pen is similar to the the Leap Reader which was very exciting for him. Our LeapReader stopped working after years of play. However, the LeapStart books are all about learning which is loves, so this is a plus. They are like a workbook style which he has always been a fan of. We have the solar system and others that went along with this Leap pen and he always used those over the books.
All in all this is a great product. The books that go along with the product are a great price. The only downside is the size. A lot of times my little guy likes to use this type of stuff while traveling and the case is rather large for that.

Fun and Interactive!

I received the products mentioned to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.
LeapStart is a new, interactive system from LeapFrog that’s perfect for kids ages 2-7 {Preschool through 1st Grade}. The system is a large, portable and kid-friendly device that includes an easy grip stylus, sampler book, and downloadable Guide to Getting Kids Ready to School. There’s a large variety of activity books available for all different ages and with different topics for each one! One of my two year old’s favorite books is designed for preschoolers and deals with daily routines, while my seven year old is a fan of the 1st Grade level Space Science book. Each book has two different levels within it so that it can grow with your child as well!
To use the system, you just insert the book of your choice. Once you’ve added the audio for the book to your system {easily done by connecting to your computer via the included USB cord}, the system will recognize your book and allow you to play! You and your kids can use the stylus to learn, explore, and play games.
We love these books because they are reusable- we love typical activity books but you can only use them once because they get marked on. These are not only reusable but interactive as well- you can actually hear animal sounds or hear your favorite LeapFrog characters talking to you! They also come in so many subjects that there’s bound to be something your child is interested in!
I also love that the books are geared perfectly toward the ages that they recommend. The tasks and games for each book are challenging enough to be fun and educational, but easy enough that they aren’t frustrating. The illustrations change based on age, too- preschool books have cute characters and simple pages and as the books progress in level, they become more complicated and have a lot more details to explore!
I have kids in the age ranges for both systems, and we have the system geared toward kindergarteners and 1st graders and they both love it!

The favorite toy at our house!

This LeapStart has become the favorite toy at our house when friends are over or we are babysitting other kids. I had one 1st grader I was watching one day play for the entire 2 hours she was over. She couldn't put it down! She loved the STEM book. My children also play with it frequently. There are so many different games and activities in just the 4 books we got with it and we haven't even dabbled in the other options yet! It is fun to see them work through how to build the best robot and analyze data. I love when toys keep their attention because they are fun and also teach them skills! I'd definitely recommend!
