Great grill, good size

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this grill a couple weeks ago and have really enjoyed it so far. It's got a ton of surface area, so I was able to whip out a bunch of grilled veggies and meats for 10 guests pretty easily. The capacity is a definite plus. The multiple dampers and adjustable heat tray are a big help, too. Still trying to figure out the particulars, but overall it allows for a good deal of control over the temperature.
The only thing I'd call out on this is that, due to the sheer size of it, it takes a ton of charcoal (more than I was used to, since my last one was a bit smaller). Seems obvious, but it is not only the surface area that requires this, but also the internal volume. It can take a bit longer to get to the desired closed temperature, especially for a chronic "open the grill and screw around with everything while it's cooking" type like myself.
Oh, and the material used to coat the grates makes cleaning very easy.
Overall, it's a great looking product that does its job very well, and is great for whenever you're hosting a large group.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After moving the box I knew this was a quality product. Set up wasn't difficult and the process was really streamlined. The overall design of the product is both beautiful and well made. From a functional standpoint, the 4 vents are key. After a couple of uses I've found you can really dial in the temperature to keep it consistent. With regular compressed charcoal and only a few uses so far I've been able to get the temperature over 450. The adjustable tray is really an awesome addition that most charcoal grills simply miss. Overall, very pleased!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Grill with some minor Drawbacks

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This grill is great! I put it together fairly easily and used it to make chicken. The adjustable tray is cool, but the part that it rests on does not feel like it is strong enough to support lots of coal. I only used half of the tray and it seemed to droop a little.

Solid grilling machine

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Assembly: pretty involving, i consider myself pretty handy and it took me atleast 2 hours to put this thing together. Don't plan on grilling the same night you start assembling
Design/Quality: The quality good, everything is stamped metal. It's got 4 wheels, making it easy to manuver (my previous Charbroils had only 2). The vents on the cover are nice and large. Wish the bottom had bigger vents as well. The side-shelves are functional, but ugly, wish they had put more into aesthetics. Not sure how useful the bottom door is going to be, the ability to get more coal in there is pretty tight unless you have the right sized shovel.
Pros:
1) Big size, lots of room to work with
2) Crank adjustable coal tray - good for searing meats. Can get those coals within 1 inch of the grill
3) Lots of venting options for controlling airflow
4) 4 separate grills make the grilling surface very modular
5) Easy to clean, because the coal tray is easy to remove.

2) The crank mechanisms has lots of moving parts and seems like it won't hold up well out in the elements. Only time will tell
3) The coal tray is solid metal, only vented at the ridges. This makes the coals burn cooler and slower. This can be good or bad depending on what you're cooking
4) The Door is cool-looking, but not sure it would be too useful for adding more coal. Probably easier to just go thru the grills. Still good for getting more air into the grill though.

good to start with

Its a great product , except for the grate that holds the charcoal, they has some issues of the metal being too thin and burning through. mine was no exception, they sent a replacement and same issue except lasted a bit longer. this time the pan no longer raises or lowers just stays in one spot also the ash pan has burned through. This seems to be a common issue, since I have made my own ashpan and now will have to either make another charcoal pan or order another with the parts to make it raise and lower it has served us a few years and with a big family has done very well at cooking when I could control the heat. I would have given it 5 stars if it had not been for the thin metal they have used. The built in Thermometer gave out the 10th time I used it , I use a digital one now and I only get 350-375 deg inside so I know the meat is getting cooked properly. I would recommend to others only if they correct the thin metal issue.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Love Char Broil Charcoal Grills ..... but .....

Just replaced my very old Char Broil Charcoal Grill for a new one - 780, and I do love it! Plenty of space for grilling, warming etc.. love the side shelves, as always. It was fairly easy to assemble.
The grates are very easy to clean.. burned off the food, & when it was cool I soaked them.. they washed easily ...
But ... you changed the pan that holds the charcoal. I understand this pan with ridges holds the stacks of charcoal better.. but it's more difficult to clean. With the old flat pan, I brushed the ash, it fell in the drawer, and I only had to empty the ash drawer... with the new design, I have to remove the ash drawer & the charcoal pan for cleaning.
otherwise .. Love this grill!

My favorite grill yet!

I bought the 780 unit last year and I love it! Gave it four stars for the charcoal tray. I had to drill holes in it (which wasn’t easy due to its great composition) just to get more air to the coals. But other than that, it’s easy to use, easy to clean, has plenty of workspace on either side and it’s pleasing to the eye. Thanks Charbroil!

Grates are great. No rust. Love the vents, able to raise and lower charcoal. Wish the tray would actually go lower. Thats the only reason i did not give it 5 stars.
