I can only get 3 out of 4 lights even in direct sun. When trying to charge anything while in the sun it overheats and shuts down. Only use case is to charge the internal battery then use that to charge something else out of the sun.

Hi Jason, we're sorry to hear that your panel's overheat function is interfering with its ability to charge. The overheat function is built to protect the internal battery, but it certainly shouldn't be interfering with 'regular' use of your panel. Please reach out to our support team here: https://www.bioliteenergy.com/pages/contact and we'll gladly help resolve this for you.
The panel worked very well on our first trip. On our second trip it stopped charging its internal battery and the charge icon would only appear on a device for one or two seconds before disappearing. All this despite being outside in direct sunlight.
Not with buying if it will only work for a week before breaking...

Elegant yet light design means I can put this anywhere (and it helps to charge my cell phone, GoPro cameras, MP3 player and more!). I'm starting small on this journey to reduce my carbon footprint, and using Biolite's Solar Panel is a very nice, easy start.
Saw the charge icon for ~5 seconds. Didn’t work after that. Tried all troubleshooting options. Terrible purchase.

Hi, I have a number of BioLite products. I have the Firepit (and all the accessories), two SolarPanel 5+, a PowerLight, and 2 PowerLight minis. I really want to like the products and the company, but my products seem to all fail after a year and a half. I bought a SolarPanel 5+ and a PowerLight for my parents who spend some time in an area prone to hurricanes. The PowerLight failed after about a year and half and I did not hear anything back from my inquiries. I just tested one of the SolarPanel 5+ and it is no longer working (no lights and no charging). I tried it at noon with multiple cables and multiple devices (including BioLite products). This is even more of a pain because I had to buy a brand new PowerLight to replace the defective one. I really wanted to make this work. I like the mission and I like the promises of the products, but at this point I am just waiting for everything else to fail.

I do not hold any engineering diploma but I don’t think I have to TO USE THE CHARGER! Seemed well build, sized etc., was SO excited to take on a family backpacking trip.. Today’s trial in a whole day of full sun proved it wrong.
1. iPhone 7 simply does not recognize the charger when connected indoor with fully charged internal battery no matter what cords combination I tried. Was able to get up by 10 percent in 2 hours on full sun though. 2. Power bank Anker not only did not charge but actually lost 1 brick (out of 4 total, start with 2) AND drained the fully charge internal battery despite spending whole day in the sun..
So I really don’t understand how it can function that way and what I am doing wrong. I would live with no direct phone charging BUT the power bank charging I expect to be flawless because it is A CHARGER!
Perhaps you need to continuously move the charger facing the sun precisely.
Disappointing. :(

Hi Slava, we're sorry you've been disappointed with the SolarPanel 5+. It sounds like you may be using the SP5+ indoors; we recommend placing the panel outside and in direct sunlight. Give this a try and if the issues persist, please reach out to our team: https://www.bioliteenergy.com/pages/contact. We'll gladly walk through some troubleshooting tips with you to ensure that the SP5+ is working well.
Seems pretty sweet, charged my phone in the yard haven't really used it out and about yet. Super light, seems well made, the legs ratchet pretty tight, between that and the eyelets I think you could stand, lean, or hang this thing anywhere you want. The sundial doesn’t work well in overcast but I guess that’s kinda the point...
Giving it three stars instead of two for it's durability and design, which is generous considering that it doesn't charge a phone. That was the reason I bought it.
