Okay, I could not find my original 2 star rating of this not charging my iPhone. Even though this solar panel has a battery it appears you have to plug in your device take the system outside and expose it to the light. then the system turns on.
I was looking for a solar panel for this summer to add to my teaching kit for the wilderness kayak courses I do for the Ontario Sea Kayak Center. I used the panel first on my weekend courses and then the wilderness courses. Hands down both the Solarpanel 5+ and Alpen Glow have become an essential part of my kit. Over the course of my six day trips in the middle of Georgian Bay they were vital to my comfort and security, especially the Solarpanel 5+. It is super easy to use and the most reliable panel I have ever used. The Alpen Glow was the perfect light for my tent and the variety of settings allowed me to have a little fun around tha camp as well (the multiple colour lights I call PARTY MODE). Truly great equipment that you can COUNT on.
While putting the solar panel centered in full midday sun without clouds in the summer, I'm only picking up a charge speed of 2 out of 4. The build in battery when fully charged is almost fully empty after leaving it alone for one or two days.
The sun dial and stand are nice details, but if the core functionality of the panel is not working properly... it's of not much use.
Would not recommend this product. Probably going to get a different brand panel.

Bought 5 years ago. Used it a handful of times, e.g., bicycle camping, car camping, and experimenting with it around the house. Worked OK, but took a long time to charge. It's mostly been sitting in a dark closet in storage. Took it out today to try it out again, and it was completely dead. I'm assuming the battery just died. I managed to take it apart (I don't recommend this), and discovered there are no user serviceable parts; the battery is permanently installed and cannot be replaced. If you're considering buying one, be aware of my situation. It's surprising the battery would not last for 5 years with such minimal usage. Beware!

Hi there! Thanks so much for sharing your feedback with us! Batteries do need a little extra love! For this, we recommend charging the product every 3-4 months, or at least every 6 months to maintain a healthy battery. Please be careful!!! For safety reasons, we would not recommend that you disassemble the product.
I bought the solar panel 3200mAh for my partner Christmas. We are currently at a camping trip, charged it at home and had it in the sun all day long. It literally charges phones only up to 20% and than is absolutely dead. I am a really unhappy customer this should not happen.

Charging time can vary depending on the size of the battery in your phone. Please reach out to our support team @ support@bioliteenergy.com. We would like to hear more.
I bought this to charge my phone on backcountry trips but found out it isn't compatible with Android phones (USB C charger). I contacted support and was told to use an old iPhone charger but that obviously doesn't help. I can't return this product so I'm stuck with it.
Bought this solar panel for my trip into the national parks in Zambia. Tested it at home (Canada) and it charged quickly, especially when aligning the sundial correctly. Once charged by the sun, I plugged in my cell, and that was charged quickly by the solar panel. I also charged my Kindle and Fitbit with no issues and the solar panel still had power to spare. So far, I'm quite happy with the Solar Panel 5+ and I hope it performing just as well in the jungle.
