Amazing buy. Well worth it

I found this product through a podcast and totally worth it. I took it camping with me and it was great for keeping my emergency phone charged and lightening the load.

Promising, but needs more powerful battery

I read a review on here that expresses my feelings exactly: I love how fast the panel charges, and I'm always excited to use the sundial to get direct sunlight, but the battery output will barely charge my phone before it's dead and I have to put it in the sun again. I'm going to try to put the charge into my own portable battery to see if that helps, and I also don't know how to charge my laptop with it (which doesn't have a usb plug in). Overall, I think this is a decent personal panel for a first time solar user, and at a price point that is more accessible than others in it's same price / capacity range, but if you want to go from novelty excitement to practical application of solar power, I would recommend something with a larger battery and probably just a bigger panel overall.

Will not give phone a full charge

For the price of this charger I was surprised at the amount of charge it would give my Samsung S7. From 15% battery it would only charge my phone to 52% before the power was depleted. It only has a 2200 mah battery so makes sense that it will not fully charge a phone with a 3000 mah battery. So before purchasing know that it will only give your phone a partial charge. As far as charging its own battery from the sun it is the fastest I have seen in that regard. Maybe 3 hours in full sun to fully charge the 2200 mah battery. For $79 they should really put a bigger battery on it than 2200 mah.

making a difference to Chadians

I don't personally use these products as I bring them for gifts to friends I work with in business development projects I am dong in Chad Africa. You can see by my purchases I purchase one and give it to someone to use in Chad as I have found that some things are not meant to be used in Africa. The solar panels I have purchased in the past are working well and holding up, so I have purchased additional this time for some Nomadic Fulani friends. Only issue that has come up is that when its 110 degrees they tend not to work well in that high of heat, but otherwise very happy with the product. I bought and brought another brand to give to this same Nomadic Fulani last year and it only lasted for 1 week in the bush. Your product has lasted over a year so far, and will let you know the results from time to time.

Off Grid Help

Recently my daughter and her family purchased an off-grid home. I gave each of the 4 children one of the SolarPanel 5+. Their new home does not have a much extra electrical power, so each of the children now set up their SolarPanel 5+ in the sun before school and when they return, they can charge up their tablets and phones without having to draw power from the home system. It has been working well and is a great blessing to them. Thanks Biolite for making this rugged, reliable source of energy.

Works very impressively

Just got my order earlier today. Of course this is not the only item, but this review is to show redundancy...I also ordered the the entire Nano Grid...
The Power Light came out of box with 2 LEDs of charge...
I Plugged it into the solar panel(which also had 2 LEDs of charge...after 2 hours the Power light was fully charged. it took an additional hour to bring the 5+ up to full charge
The functions are above expectation. In September they gear will get the full on test...

I have used this on a few camping trip so far. I've had in the rain and it rained all night I kept it out to catch the morning sun. This thing works wonderful charges my things up quickly and it charges itself up perfectly. Just like all BioLite products I have no complaints!

Spent the entire day at a beach in Michigan and used my phone to play music while charging with the panel. All day long! Then when the sun started going down, I still had 98% charged! Didn't let me down! Love it! It's a keeper! I hope it lasts !
