Best Closed-Back Headphones I have ever owned!

These Headphones are absolutely amazing! Honestly the best I have even owned! Great sound quality and sound stage! Bass is really good as well. I was a bit of a bass head but since I have had these, I can hear more sound which has made me respect the mids and highs more. The only downside to these is due to my big ears. The cushions sit on my ears and since there is a fair amount of clamping force, they hurt my ears after about 3 hours of continuous use.
Pros: Compact, Durable, Good Bass, Good Value, Great Sound, Lightweight, Stylish
Cons: Uncomfortable
I would recommend this to a friend!

I recently picked up a pair of ATH A900X headphones and I have to say that I am very impressed. The sound quality is phenomenal on these cans right out of the box. I'll break it down a bit for those interested in getting these great headphones. Comfort 3/5 These headphones are insanely comfortable for me personally. The 3D wing system is great, I can wear the headphones for hours without taking them off. Initially the pads are slightly stiff, but after some time with them they have softened up a bit and feel great. I give them a 3/5 because the comfort is not across the board, these headphones are not for everyone in terms of comfort. My girlfriend for example cannot wear them because they are simply to big and slide down her ears. Having a bigger head is definitely a plus with them. Build quality 4/5 The build quality feels nice on these headphones. The aluminum housing is nice and although most of the frame is plastic, it feels built to last. The nylon wrapped chord is especially nice is very pliable and the metal plug is very sturdy, great quality here. Highs 4/5 The highs on these cans are great, almost no sibilance, they aren't piercing at all and also not fatiguing. I don't listen to classical much, but for testing purposes it sounds great to my ears. Mids 5/5 Audio Technica has the mids down pat on most if not all of their audiophile headphones, these are no exception. Vocals sound fantastic, you can't find many headphones in this range with mids this good. Lows/Bass 4/5 Most of the previous line of headphones in the audiophile section for AT have been a bit lacking on the low end, I can't say the same for these cans. These aren't "bass head" headphones, so you won't hear crazy pounding bass from them. What you do get is a nice smooth presence in the low end. The bass is tight, and it comes with a nice punch. A definite increase in the low end of the spectrum compared with some other AT offerings. I should mention that the headphones definitely are not portable. While they sit snug on my head, I would not to want to go for a run with them or take them with me on a bus. Definitely an "in your house" style listening experience. They are also an easy to drive 42 Ohm headphone, so they sound great straight out of a mobile device, laptop, desktop, etc. Amp's and dac's can always add to them, but aren't required.
Pros: Easy to Drive, sound quality is incredible, very solid build with nylon cable metal plug.
Cons: Not portable at all, initially pads are a bit stiff, the "fit" isn't for everyone

It is a good headphone but the quality varies

The sound quality of this headphone is amazingly good when I listened to most of music with it. But when I listen to an audiophile test music of drum, I found that one side of headphone was good , but the other one had a resonance vibrational noise at a deep bass. Because the other side was still very good, I have asked for a replacement in stead of returning. I wish that Audio -technica had tested each of their headphones carefully in the whole frequency range as most of customers may not have the test music as I do to find out this problem. I think the technology behind this headphone is good, but if a screw were not tightened enough during the assembling, the sound quality will get worse.
Pros: Film/Video Production

I've owned these 'phones since 2012 and have used them in a variety of ways (television via A/V receiver, music via A/V receiver, music via iPod - plugged into a headphone amp, and most recently directly into a Pono player - best vehicle yet!). The sound is balanced...not too much bass/mid/treble. The are quite comfortable; however after a few hours of use they wear a bit 'warm/hot' on the ears/head...not a big deal, but no device is perfect. Given the initial cost and quality of these 'phones, I can only give my highest recommendation for the ATH-A900x.
Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Good Value, Great Sound, Lightweight
Cons: Can make one's ears warm
