Looks nice, middling performance

My wife and I bought this fridge as part of a kitchen remodel, where we moved to all stainless appliances. We've had GE appliances before, and were happy with them, so we decided that on paper, it fit the bill. Our previous main fridge, which has now been relegated to our downstairs (backup) fridge, is a 10 year old, 28.5 CF Samsung, which has been great. We got a killer deal on it, and it's performed well. We had the GE delivered and installed, and right off the bat, we could see that the fit and finish of this fridge was not up to the standard set by the Samsung. First, it's significantly louder. Part of that is understandable. The ice maker is in the door, where there's less insulation. The fans are noticeably louder, and run a lot longer than the previous fridge did. I suppose we'll get used to it. Second, the slides on the freezer drawer are very stiff, and do not move easily. Prior fridge almost had a soft-close feature, where the door would draw in if it got close to being fully closed. This drawer is not smooth, and will stop completely if you push and let go, hoping it will close the rest of the way. Third, the freezer handle has come off 3 times in a month - it's designed to fit over a couple plastic guides, and slide left/right to lock in. Except it apparently doesn't lock in very well, because repeatedly pulling on the freezer door (to open it - surprise) will loosen the handle to the point where it comes off the fridge in your hand. We will deal with it, and live with it for the time being, but will be very hesitant to invest in a GE fridge again, especially for this price.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

For the stiff slides, this will correct it itself with use as it is broken in. In the meantime, you can rub paraffin wax or petroleum jelly on them to ease the friction.
Finally, the freezer handle can be tricky to install. It takes a very hard pull to the right. Something we found that works very well is, put a soft cloth over the left end of the handle at tap it with a rubber mallet. You will feel it snap into its final locking position.

I had looked for several months before purchasing this refrigerator. Was so glad I found this one. Love the size and the ice and water in the door. Also love the sleek lines of the design and with six grandchildren I love the fact that there's an alarm that tells you if the door is ajar The freezer pulls out easily with no hang ups. Would definitely recommend this one!

Freezer handle broke off after only 3 days.

The freezer handle broke off after only 3 days usage. Waiting to have it fixed 3 weeks now. Waiting for part. I do like the no fingerprints, easier to keep clean. Don’t like the full size drawer. Have to open Botha doors to access.

Damaged in the box

I bought new appliances when my roof blew off. It’s taken a few years to get to the point of unboxing my appliances. Lots of damage and the warranty is up. Even though I’m just unboxing it. Front looks like a head was thrown into it. The side is dented half the length. Inside there are what looks like nail holes. I can take pics of inside and the side. I don’t know what happened to those pics I took. I just need a replacement door and I’d be happy.
