Roomy Fridge!

The refrigerator. It is roomy and deep, a little hard for a short person to reach into the back, hence 4 stars. Also, the freezer is hard to find things having things stacked on top of each other, my side by side had baskets, the other shelves. The fan seems loud when it runs. I love no fingerprints! Overall, its a wonderful appliance.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Temperature issue

Have had this fridge for about three weeks . My last fridge had temperature issues , so I installed a temperature gauge in this one for piece of mind. Well, the fridge is set at 34 and it rarely goes that low. Most of the time it sits at 39/40 . Freezer seems ok. Food seems cold , just mot sure why it constantly reads around 40. May have to call GE to look at it.

Love the refrigerator

Love the refrigerator had a he profile previously but this one is much larger capacity and laid out way better. Love the freezer on the bottom. This would have been a 5 star review but the holding tank for the water in the door seems way to small and takes to long to chill back up but it has ice in the door as well so easy fix.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Handles fall off and you go flying!

The freezer drawer is difficult to open, sounds like an airplane taking off AND the handle comes off, which sends you flying when pulling on the drawer. It can be painful to own this refrigerator…

Hi there,
We're awfully sorry to hear that the freezer door is hard to open and that the handle pops off. We certainly understand how frustrating that is and would like to share some troubleshooting tips. When you open your fresh food or freezer door, warm air rushes inside. When you close the door, all the warm air rushes to the evaporator, which in turn causes a vacuum. If you close one of the doors but then need to open one again, the vacuum makes the doors will be hard to open for about 10 to 15 seconds after closing .Once the air equalizes, the door will open as normal again.
If your doors are always hard to open:
Try rubbing paraffin wax or petroleum jelly along the edges of the entire gasket. Paraffin wax is used for canning and is safe for use around food.
Do not use candle wax as it may contain chemicals that are not safe for use around food.

Frustrating Internal Layout and water/ice Despense

First, the Black Slate color is hands down fabulous. I have had this appliance for a couple of months now I have not yet had to “clean” the exterior for hand/finger prints. Just a quick wipe if you get a little grime in it. It seems very durable.
Water and Ice descenders: total pain, I really don’t like them. You MUST have a wide mouthed glass or ice and water will go everywhere! The water is not cold, and the ice machine (held in the fridge door, not in the freezer) is quite small. If you try to use the crushed ice, it will get all over your floor no matter how hard you try.
Interior layout: despite how large this fridge is, the internal layout is simply dumb. Sure you can technically “adjust” the shelves- but aside from completely removing shelves and thus losing even more functional space, there is only one way the shelving will all fit.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

If the freezer temperature is too cold, the ice will spray more because it is more brittle and flies apart faster while being crushed. To correct this, turn the thermostat control to a warmer setting.
Ice may also spray over the side of the glass if the glass is held to far from the dispenser chute. Holding the glass approximately one inch from the dispenser chute will correct this.
Finally, Ice may spray over the side of the glass if the mouth of the glass is too small. If possible, use a glass with a wider mouth (3 - 4" opening).
For water temperature coming from the temperature, this is based on the temperature set in your fresh food section. A reservoir allows water to cool so that it is chilled for drinking. If you dispense all of the water from the reservoir or too often to let it chill, you will receive tap temperature water.
