Sticks out too far

We have a 15" depth cabinet above our stove without outside ventilation. Was very upset to learn that GE no longer made a front venting microwave (mw) when ours went out as all our other appliances are GE. So...we ordered the bump out kit which took almost a month to arrive. Tonight we installed it, and I'm not pleased at all. The mw sticks out 3" past our cabinets. That's 2" of metal on the top of the mw and 1" of the venting. I would have been better off adding pieces of sheetrock or wood behind the mw bracket that came with the mw, building it out 2", then having it protruding 3" in front of the cabinets. I may still, but also not crazy about adding even more holes to the above cabinet. Please bring back at least 1 model in front venting mw, this has been a needless headache!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We don’t understand why this kit is required for 1.5 inch deep cabinets when we are using standard top vent option plus spacer kit for 36 inch wide opening. It will make our ZSA1202PSS model oven stick out much too far. It seems there is an extra vent above the front door, but it only appears to need an inch of space, which it would have.

Microwaves need to be installed in a 12"-13" deep cabinet. In order to install an over-the-range microwave under a deeper cabinet (14",15", or 16") deep cabinet, a Bump Out Kit is required. The Bump Out Kit is a wall bracket that extends the unit forward by 3".

Good product, bad options.

This product is manufactured by Stone City Products and is of high quality. However, this specific bump out kit adds 3 inches to the depth. GE reallty should have other options such as a 1.5" and 2" bup out kit as 3" can bump out the microwave much farther than necessary. For example, my overhead cabinet has a 15" depth, but my main cabinets have a 12" depth. In this case, 3" is way more than necessary.

Why would you make a bump out for 3" when the 15" cabs are 2" deeper than regular cabs!!!!?????

We'd like to assist you with your microwave. Over-the-Range Microwaves should be installed in a 12" minimum to 13" maximum deep cabinet. In order to install an Over-the-Range Microwave under a deeper cabinet such as 14", 15", or 16" deep, a Bump Out Kit is required. It extends the microwave out by 3". This way the door will have enough clearance space when opened and the unit can vent properly.
