Disappointed with the quality scape

I purchased the vent along with a matching GE cooktop. When the installers completed the installation to my dismay I noted that fan wasn't working. After a week and three separate GE technician visits they finally fixed the unit. Definitely a quality escape at manufacturing that showed have never made it out. Other than the unit does what it is supposed to. The fan could have been less noisy.

Telescoping vent system

Not powerful enough

Have been using a little over a month. Big difference from the previous downdraft we had with our GE electric cooktop. Does not draw in the steam like I would have hoped for. Won't draw from the front two burners at all.

Worst product design

When I read a description of the unit, it stated it worked with a remote control. I assumed it would be wireless but it’s not and you’re supposed to drill a 1/2” hole in your countertop to have this cheap wired remote control work. That’s the most idiotic idea that GE has ever thought up. All GE downdrafts are designed this way so my next one won’t be a GE. The fan is also quite noisy. Finally, the stainless steel finish is $180 more expensive than the black finish. I’m very disappointed in GE.

Defective, non-functioning product out of the box

The GE model UVB36SKSS was installed to code by a licensed master electrician. The downdraft did not work immediately after installation (the downdraft goes up and down but the fan isn't working -- which kind of defeats the purpose of a downdraft).
This unit was installed during the first part of July. It will remain broken until the middle of August, or more than a month after installation, if my fiancee are very lucky and there are no more issues.
At this point, were there any way to return the cooktop and downdraft and get our money back for the purchase and installation costs so we could purchase a different brand that actually worked, we would. We are completely unsatisfied with it.
I would be more specific, but my previous review was discarded because I included specifics.

OPERATION OF THE TELESCOPING SECTION INCONSISTENT

AFTER CAREFUL INSTALLATION I FOUND THAT THE THE HOOD WOULD NOT GO ALL THE WAY UP WITHOUT HAVING TO PUSH THE BUTTON SEVERAL TIMES. THEN ID WOULD NOT GO ALL THE WAY DOWN. THE ONLY WAY TO GET IT ALL THE WAY DOWN IS TO PULL UP ON ON IT AS IT IS RETRACTING. FAILED RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX.

Excellent for Island Stove Tops
