Stunning picture

The 64.5" Sony X850B is an upgrade to my previous 50" plasma TV that finally conked out. I wanted to get a 4K TV to future proof my new purchase but was a bit worried if LCD picture quality could truly compare to plasma's. I've now had the Sony 64.5" X850B for a few months and it's surpassed all of my expectations. I'm really happy with the TV's vibrant colors that are realistic and really pop. I think the Triluminos technology is what really differentiates Sony from the other 4K TVs in the market. I especially appreciate that I didn't have to make any changes to the picture settings which were very good straight out of the box. Although there isn't much 4K content out there yet, the 4K upscaling of existing 1080p content is very nice for now. The Smart TV functions are ok and work as expected (I mostly just use Netflix and Amazon Video). The two included remotes are ok, but I use my cable box remote to control the TV power, channels, and volume. I tried the 3D function once, and that was enough for me to know it works but I really don't care to wear glasses to watch a movie in my living room. I use a Yamaha receiver and 5.1 external speakers for surround sound; the set up was very simple, and my receiver works seamlessly with the TV. Great picture, great sound, what else could I ask for? One side note: I almost didn't consider this model because I have my TV sitting on a corner table that is not quite as wide as the TV. Most of the X850B pictures show it with the leg stands on the corner edges of the TV ( I guess this allows a sound bar to sit in front of the TV), but those legs can be moved toward the center of the TV which works better for my setup. To hide the power cord and HDMI cables I taped them to the back of the leg stand. All in all, I would highly recommend the Sony X850B.

Detailed review pros and cons!
on December 16, 2014

Pros:
1. Very thin Metal bezels ( about 1/3 of an inch)
2. Color quality is superb
3. Thin profile makes it ideal for wall mounting
4. Adjustable feet was a great idea (side or center)
5. Doesn't get hot
6. 4k Resolution is nice ( must be 8 feet away and more to appreciate it)
7. Not so heavy at 75 lbs even for a 65" led tv
Cons:
1. 4k content is very limited thus limiting the point of having a 4k tv
2. screen edges near the bezel can be damaged with enough force like your palms banging against it it while lifting it.
3. Tv speakers are not that great. Sub might change that
4. takes about 7-9 seconds to be fully functional from pressing the "on" button.
5. laggy apps
6. Mediocre built in camera
Suggestions:
1. When moving or lifting the unit, Do not at all cost touch the screen.
2. Soap opera effect can be disabled by not using the General and sports scene option
3. Add a soundbar with sub or an external wireless sub and you are all set.
4. 4k is not at prime yet but will be soon

the best TV but horrible white glove service
on August 26, 2014

Stunning TV, very good picture quality. I had Verizon Fios Ultra HD that streams only in 720, but i could clearly make out that the upscaling was great ! Netflix 4K content is decent. Overall a truly stunning experience. Some cable channels are decent not great but its when you switch to the movie channels, everything looks fabulous. Good job sony.
My only horrible experience was the white glove that was horrible.
I had to lift the TV 2 floors myself (just one guy came) and then they didnt even bother to install this properly. They didnt even have a proper screw driver, left stains oall over the new TV, totally horiible experience. you are better off just getting the standard free shipping since you will do most of the work yourself.

Best Picture Quality

Verified Purchase:Yes
Its as if you can reach out and touch the actors. We compared this unit side by side with Samsung, Visio, and LG. The decision was easy to see. The picture quality in this box was just outstanding. Had to use the internal mounting locations for the legs which was no issue and stability was not an issue, actually the internal locations seem to work and support the tv better the recommended (end of unit) positions. We have to date been more then impressed with the Picture quality of this unit. Do not use it for the internet at this time but will update once we move in that direction.

Best TV picture ever
on October 20, 2014

We searched and researched every TV out there. We were looking for a 65 inch 4k to hang on the wall. We had narrowed our search to 2 TVs....Sony and Samsung. We decided to go with the Sony because the view from the side is so much better on the Sony. We love it and the picture is beautiful. It feels as if you are actually there, especially a football game. This is the best TV ever!

Exceeded expectations; incredible image, top of the line materials and build, love the 2nd remote with touch pad, very intuitive menus. Using it mostly for movies (netflix) and regular tv (bell sat). The up-convert is faboulos; overall we are very satisfied.

Just got this Sony 850B 4k TV last week it absolutely gorgeous. The upscaling from 1080p looks phenomena with direct tv and blue rayl. I up 'd my next Netflix to watch marcopolo on 4k which blew me away. Next watched 4k short videos on youtube which looked incredible. Walking dead, Amazon 4k context looks amazing Cant wait to watch football and basketball next .

Excellent TV

This TV replaced a Toshiba DLP and there is no comparison. Not only is the picture vastly superior in brightly lit rooms or anytime, it was the easiest to set up right out of the box. I also bought the 4K media player but have not yet set it up. I sm particularly impressed with the smart features as the interface on streaming sites such as Netflix and Amazon's Prime Instant Video is so good that I no longer need ROKU with this TV. I also bought the Sony soundbar and it fits beautifully and delivers very good sound at a bargain price.
