New Fridge

This unit replaced a 15 year old GE fridge that we were very satisfied with. In comparison with the old unit this one is much noisier and seems to run more frequently. It is next to impossible to fill a glass with ice, especially crushed ice without making a mess on the floor. Also there is no drip tray under the ice/water dispenser so any drips or pieces of ice just lay there and have to be cleaned up with a paper towel after each use. Whose bright idea was it to label the buttons for the ice and water with dark letters on a dark grey background? Anyone taller than about 5 feet needs to bend over to get the writing at eye level in order to read the writing. We do like having the ice maker in the door though. It opens up quite a bit of extra space that was taken up by the old ice maker in our previous fridge. Overall fairly satisfied with the unit.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi there,
Thanks for taking the time to reach out about your refrigerator, so sorry to hear about all of the issues you've had here. We'd like to assist as best we can.
If you have questions or concerns about noises you're hearing, we recommend taking a look at the following article to see if it helps to clear things up: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=15901&_ga=2.170948387.2014380485.1654520216-644123690.1652279486
We also wanted to mention that for refrigerators and freezers to maintain the proper temperature, the compressor will run much of the time. Refrigerators and freezers have compressors that are designed to run 80% to 90% of the time. This makes them more energy efficient because the greatest amount of energy is used when the compressor cycles on as opposed to when the compressor is actually running. More can be learned about the run time by clicking here: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=16932&_ga=2.183335461.2014380485.1654520216-644123690.1652279486
If you're finding that your unit is too cold and is freezing your food, take a look at the following article to see if it helps: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=23002&_ga=2.83203861.2014380485.1654520216-644123690.1652279486
If your handles are falling off, you may want to check to see if your specific model is listed under the handle recall, here: https://www.geappliances.com/ge/recall/bottom-freezer-refrigerator-2022/
Finally, sometimes a small mound of frost, snow, or ice will form on the door or flap in the ice chute. This condition is usually normal and typically occurs when you have dispensed crushed ice repeatedly. It will eventually evaporate. You can clean frost from the dispenser chute by using a warm damp sponge. If you're constantly seeing frost build up in this area, operate the dispenser with the door open and the ice bucket out to see if the flap is closing all the way. If not, you will want to have the dispenser checked by a service technician. Our team can be found here should you need them: https://www.geappliances.com/ge/service-and-support/service.htm
We do hope that all of this is helpful!
If you have other questions or concerns in the future, know that we're happy to help as best we can.
All the best, Michael@GEA

Constant Humming

Not sure if its defective but there is a constant humming noise that comes from the fridge. There also isn't an alarm when the freezer door is left ajar which is not ideal.

Hi!
Thanks for leaving a review. We'd be happy to help clear things up.
You may hear a low humming while the unit is running, this would be considered normal. This humming could also be your icemaker. A hum or click can be heard when the icemaker fills with water. This sound may be heard once or multiple times. For more information about normal and abnormal sounds, you can click here: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=15901&_ga=2.184375077.2014380485.1654520216-644123690.1652279486
Also, the door alarm feature helps ensure food preservation is maximized by signaling if the fresh food door(s) or freezer drawer has been left ajar. When the fresh food door(s) has been left open longer than 2 minutes, a beeping signal will sound .Excessive warm air filtration into a refrigerator rapidly increases the inside temperature. Temperatures higher than 44 degrees can result in rapid food spoilage as well as additional energy needed to re-cool the interior. Note that the alarm won't sound if door is open between 1/2" to 3". To engage or disengage this alarm, you can press the Alarm pad on the control panel.
We do hope this is helpful!
If you've got other questions or concerns, know that you're always free to reach out and let us know.
Best wishes, Michael@GEA

Good so far, Noisier than Previous

Lots of room inside, looks great - a few bugaboos - One is the ice dispensing - for cubes and crushed ice, it really comes out fast and sprays all over - you need a wide rim glass or cup and need to hold it right up to the top of the output or you get a lot of ice on the floor. Secondly, this baby is very loud when operating - not a deal breaker, but I will pay close attention to this feature when making subsequent purchases
