Too many repair calls in 6 months
on November 1, 2013
Posted by: unknown

Since being installed just over 6 months ago this unit has already had 3 repair calls related to the ice maker.
The third door on top is nice but not really worth $300 more.
The features would be great if all the other problems did not exist.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Can't wait to fill it up for Thanksgiving!

We were replacing a 13yr old side-by-side fridge that we worried would break down and leave us in a bind. It was pretty noisy and we ran out of space quickly too, so there were other benefits.
We were amazed that the physical size of this fridge was the tiniest bit smaller than our old one, but it just had so much more room. Not sure if it is the insulation, newer technology or just the fact that it is arranged much better.
The door-in-door feature is very handy for those items that you often grab or forget about, so you don't have to open the whole thing up to get your jar of soy sauce. I very rarely open this door up from the inside though. You just can't reach everything and the opening is smaller, so it's just there for viewing pleasure.
We have been able to arrange the shelves so that there is adequate space for small items and large, and there isn't wasted space. We purchased some acrylic bins specifically for the fridge to hold small items such as yogurt, juice boxes, sodas, eggs. Not only does it keep them nicely contained in the fridge, but it also makes it easier to refill by taking out the bin and loading it up and putting it back in, rather than stand there with the door open while you arrange everything.
I really enjoy the deli drawer at the bottom and being able to see in through the top without having to open it. Makes it easy to locate some items without having to root through the whole drawer.
I originally did not like the idea of having my freezer items stored in a big drawer, it just seemed like there would be no order and things would get buried easily. Well if you just throw your stuff in there it will, but with the three levels of drawers you are able to keep similar items in the top two drawers, such as microwave snacks, ice cream, etc., and you can dedicate the big bottom drawer to your large items like frozen meats and casseroles. If I had those items stacked in my side-by-side I had to carefully take items out like I was playing Jenga. With the drawer I can keep those in the bottom, and not worry if I pulled one out or not.
I also enjoy the flat surface of the top two drawers when freezing sauces. I make a ton of spaghetti and freeze it in dinner size ziploc bags. When I put the new bags in the drawer I know they will all freeze in a consistent shape so I can stack them vertically later. In my side-by-side they always got distorted by what was around them and I would be forced to store them in that original stack.
The ONLY bad thing I have to say about this fridge is the fingerprint issue. If your fingers are slightly damp from rinsing something off, automatic smudge. It just seems to magnify the smallest particles because of the otherwise pristine surface. If you use any cleaner other than stainless steel cleaner you have to clean the entire surface, otherwise the area you just spot cleaned stands out from the rest.
Pros: Performance, Style/Design, easy to use, Features/Settings, Quality, organization

Really Cool Features
on November 15, 2013

When we told our son we were going shopping for a new refrigerator, he told us to look for a cool one. Well, when we found the door-in-door feature of this model we knew it was pretty cool. It was a little more than we wanted to pay, but this refrigerator has all the features we were looking for - filtered water and ice, bottom freezer, and a perfect fit where our previous model had been. It is very beautiful to look at, evidently because even though our previous fridge was very similar in style, friends who come by notice it right away. It serves the purpose and so far we're very happy with it. The only complaint is that the ice cubes are kind of small, but we like that the ice maker is in the door and doesn't take up shelf space inside the refrigerator.
