The Oral-B® ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 4000 is simply an excellent device. I'll never go back to a manual toothbrush as long as I live! Fantastic, easy to use and I'm actually looking forward to my next dentist visit. GET IT! I love this thing!!

Good brushing; bad battery

I'll admit—this a pretty great toothbrush... but only for the first year. Because Oral-B chose to go with a NiMH battery, the lifespan of this unit is quite limited. You'll get about 1.5 weeks worth of brushing out of a single charge to begin with, but 12 months later, you'll get 4 brushes. I stopped using this brush in February (2 yrs owning it), when one charge (about 12 hours) lasted for 4 minutes of brushing.
Not too sure why they didn't go with a Lithium Ion battery (except to make more money?), whose effectiveness last 4-5 years, instead of 18 months.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It's only been 7.5 months and the motor is dying....

After writing a positive review for the Vitality toothbrush which lasted me for years, I am sad to say that investing in a more expensive toothbrush was a bad idea. About 2 months ago I noticed that it would stop when it pulsated indicating to move on to another quadrant. I had to tap or shake the toothbrush to get it to start up again. Now I have to send it back for repairs as it barely works. The motor will stop, then go at full speed for a few seconds, then slow right down to almost moving, then stop, then go again.... I know there is a 2 yr warranty but after a few months, this is unacceptable for something that costs so much! In addition, I have to pay to send this back, which seems a little unfair. I can say though that it cleans very well and has great settings - when it works.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Cannot replace the battery!

Unlike the previous reviewer, I have located the battery for this unit. However, I cannot open the unit. The notch on the plug-in charger is the "tool" to open it and remove the battery. Also, I am a little skeptical about the battery replacement....it requires a soldering iron! OMG! Why must a battery replacement be so complicated? I have had the unit for 12 years ....yes, 12 years! I've had such good service from it that I hate to purchase another model.
