As Close to a Perfect Smartphone As It Gets
on July 4, 2014

I have been using my Nexus 5 since March 2014. In all ways except one, it is hands down the BEST smartphone I have owned. The one exception may be an Android problem instead of an LG problem.
The one problem is that the quality of a voice call is poor (caller can only hear my voice intermittently) if WiFi is turned on. As soon as I turn WiFi off, call quality becomes excellent.
Other than that one foible, the phone is solid, rugged and reliable. Battery life is acceptable especially if I do a few battery management practices (which I have done with every phone I have ever owned). The screen display is large and exceptionally readable even in bright sunlight (still visible albeit somewhat dimmer).
Coupled with Android V4.4.2, this is the best smartphone. The other smartphones I've used have always had annoying and loathsome problems.
The one wish I have for this phone is that battery would use a green/yellow/red color scheme for battery level. As shipped, it is somewhat difficult to determine battery status without using the Android OS 's battery display accessed via the menu system. If the customer could set thresholds for percent of battery to correspond with the colors green, yellow and red (traffic light metaphor), it would be very helpful. Not a fatal flaw but mildly annoying and irritating to me.
Pros: Performance, Style/Design, easy to use, Features/Settings, Quality
I would recommend this to a friend!

It runs like a BAWS on Lollipop. The only problem is that the camera is just OK.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's always a worrisome task when you get a new phone. From transferring your contacts to just leaning how to use the phone. I found this very easy to transfer all my contacts and find the apps that I use on a regular basis. I like all the features of this phone. The screen is very easy to read and is very clear. I haven't had any dropped calls and the coverage seems excellent. The color graphics are great and the camera feature is wonderful. Better than an actual camera.

Best phone I've ever owned!

...and I've owned a ton of Android phones (OG Droid, Droid X, Thunderbolt, Rezound, Galaxy Note 2). I love the look and feel of this phone, the "just right" screen size, the smoothness of everything, the fact that it gets prompt updates straight from Google, and most importantly, a reasonable off-contract price for a phone that will allow you to take it with you to (virtually) any carrier. No complaints here, and now I'm a Nexus-man for life!
Phone suddenly stopped making any kind of system noises, upon first use. Found a google forum just filled with people complaining about this defect. Called google for a replacement. Replacement will be a refurb. I just paid full price for a refurbished phone. Not. Happy. Screen has good clarity, but colors are dull. The display on my SGS1 is significantly more impressive.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The Nexus 5 is the essence of Android. Easy to set up, intuitive to use, highly customizable. Great battery endurance. Camera has been moved up to an acceptable performance level based on the recent firmware upgrade (12/2013).
The only shortfall is the lack of a micro-SD port. I feel that this an essential feature for any high end phone. Hopefully the Nexus 6 will permit users to add their own external memory...
Pros: Performance, easy to use, Features/Settings, Quality, kitkat, full hd display
