It's Big

I loved my previous G series cameras, but am less enamored with this. The larger (and improved) sensor render superior images--no question about that--but this is a completely different camera. Most importantly, it is no longer a pocket camera. The old versions were as big as pocket cameras could be, and the G1X has gone beyond that. The lens doesn't retract into the body, and that's what puts it over the edge. The video (which I rarely use) is much more accessible, and the quality is astoundingly good. They've moved the exposure compensation up to the top dial where the ASA dial was, making it a bit less convenient. I'm keeping my G11 because it's more portable. It will be interesting which one gets the most use.
Pros: great image quality, lots of controls & flexibility, easy access to video function, improved low-light capability
Cons: big and clunky, won't fit in a pocket

Doesn't live up to the Canon name

Well I purchased this camera to take to Hawaii while my daughter got married to do some underwater shots. I have been using Canon cameras sense the tx and Ftb came out. This camera does not have any micro capiblity at all. I shot for three weeks everyday underwater. Half my images were out of focus that right half. I was so bumbed. As well as embarrised that I purchased it.
I guess I can join the club of other G1X owner who are dyeing for it to be fixed via software updates.

Pros: Nice features/settings, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: has trouble with focusing inside of 10ft
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I received my New G1X, WOW! it is stunning, IQ is amazing, detail amazing, clarity amazing. it is perfect size, love the IQ thats what i wanted. Couldn't be happier!!!!!
