We have had this installed since 10/15/2014. I love the fact that I can get rid of my water purifier in the fridge and now have ice and water at the door. It is a bit on the noisy side but I LOVE my new fridge. Since we had almond before it has taken me a little bit of time to realize that my fridge is beside me and not someone standing there! HA

Terrible! My last GE Appliance

My unit just turned three years old last week and I was alarmed that various components all started to fail at once. First the ice and water wouldn't dispense, then the ice all started to melt. It turned out the unit wouldn't turn back on after an over extended defrost cycle. The control panel said the freezer was 3 degrees and the fridge was 38. However, I put a thermometer in each side and the reality was 37 and 65 respectively! I unplugged the unit for 60 seconds, and when I plugged it back in, the temperature control panel agreed with my independent reading and that compressor kicked on and really went to work. Looks like I need to replace at least the main circuit board - another expensive repair on one of my many GE appliances.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The ice maker is horrible. We wound up buying a counter top ice maker and turned off the one in this machine. All of the plastic inside is breaking (drawer guides, compartment handles and drawers.)
I would NOT recommend this product!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We were limited by the amount of space for our new refrigerator, so the purchasing aspect of our selection was the most difficult part. I would rate this refrigerator higher except that the freezer is difficult to access. The door space in the freezer cannot hold enough of the right sizes of the packages we use... We do like the space for ice cream, but frozen meals and vegetables are a bit hard to access due to the location in our home. The freezer door will not completely open. (That is more a problem with the design of our older house, NOT the refrigerator!) The ice-maker is a bit slow at times, but we have a free-standing ice-maker that some family members prefer, so we have enough ice. This would be just right for a small family. We do like the black color. We like the storage capacity on the refrigerator side. It runs quietly. No complaints other than what I mentioned!

Does the job well

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I chose this fridge since it is one of the few models that would fit into the existing built-in space. The shelves in both the fridge and freezer sides are basic no frills shelves. The options to arrange the shelves in the door are limited but still meet our needs with some adjustment to how we would like to organize. Only two of the four shelves can be repositioned. The electronic control on the front panel allows for reading and changing the temperature of each side but I have not as yet figured out why you would want to change either temperature from the front panel. To me temperature is a set it and forget it type thing.
Pros: Quite, cools well, exterior resists smudges and smears.
Cons: Cubed ice dispenser still puts out small bits of crushed ice even though we do not use the crushed ice option at all. This is minor but still an irritant.
Overall this side by side meets our needs as model that is above the economy level but does not have a lot of extras.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Nice look, crushed ice less than satisfactory

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is our second GE Fridge in 5 years(compressor went on the first) and we went with this model due to the size limitations in our kitchen. Our first GE fridge had a great ice crushing system however, this fridge does not crush the ice(more blocks than crushed). The outside is easy to keep clean and looks great in our kitchen. The model is fairly quiet and the shelves and inside are bright and give the impression of a larger fridge.
