Great lens

This lens I had researched a lot before purchasing the SAL 1650 and it reviews amazingly well and so it should great lens.Sharp clear and fast.
Pros: Ease of Use, Quality, Value for Money, Design, Durability, Features

Fine optics, rugged workhorse

This lens should be the kit lens on every Sony SLT model camera. It is rugged and puts up with a lot of heavy-handed treatment I dish out to it. I've even dropped it out of a bag from shoulder height and it's just kept on going without fail or degradation in resolving power (admittedly the fall smashed the heck out of the expensive B&W filter on it, though). This excellent lens should really have a big [G] emblazoned on the side, which would better signify it's true heritage.
Pros: Quality, Value for Money, Durability

Fantastic image quality but poor build

This lens produces fantastic images close to Zeiss quality, colours are great as is sharpness... Focus speeds are also really snappy and accurate! From an image point of view I love this lens.
However, This is my 3rd copy now and all 3 have had the same issues... The lens gets very stiff over time and recently the latest copy is just over a year old and I have a number of large and easy to see specks of dust inside the lens (which is suppose to be weather sealed). I have not used this lens in the rain, beach or dusty environments. I've really tried to baby the lens allot to ensure elements were not messing things up but I continue to face consistent issues and is why I would not recommend this lens.

The best thing I like about this les id that I can use the zoom with mob Sony CR2032 tripod remote in my hand to zoom in for movie with shake free control.
