Not enough air flow...

I have to say I'm not happy with this downdraft vent. There's not enough suction power, and I end up smoking up my house whenever I do any high heat cooking, unless I use the two burners closest to the vent. And, when I do that, the vent will inevitably get spattered by whatever I'm cooking.
I suspect it's a fundamental conceptual problem, and probably not specific to this model. If you're cooking on a front burner and you're using a tall stock pot, it's unrealistic to expect a vent that's shorter and ~16" away to pull away any smoke. However, it also doesn't pull any smoke when I'm using a skillet on the front burners. I'd expect it to work in that case.
If you have to use a downdraft vent like I do, I'd strongly suggest getting a cooktop with a built-in vent that runs down the center, so that it only has to overcome the distance to the top of the cookware you're using.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Does the job

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I replaced a white one with the control switch on the top. This black one has a "remote" control switch.
Performance - It works as it was designed
Quality - Solid and functional
Features - the "Remote" is a long wire connected to a flat control. I had no choice but this for an island cook-top. It was going in granite counter tops, therefore, there was no place to mount the remote without having the wires dangling in the pots and pans and we ended up drilling a hole in a drawer and running the wire through it and mounting the control on the side of the drawer. So you have to open the drawer to use it. Kind of klutzy but its not something I use very often.
Appearance- Down, it looks good when it's down. Not so pretty in use, but I see no way to change that.
Value - more than I wanted to pay but if you have an island in a vaulted ceiling, this is your only option.

GE Downdraft

I purchased this downdraft to replace my GE downdraft. I thought it would have the same features and be easy to install but after 17 years you made some changes. The installer started to install it yesterday but has to come back today to finish. He said it was different and he didn't know how to install it. I don't like the remote. It has to be attached to my cabinet.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This works great for the back to burners, right next to the vent, but it doesn't seem to pull the steam from the front two burners without being turned on VERY high. Then it's very loud.

Discontinued colors caused me issues

I had a white cooktop and now am working with a replacement vent which is black. Also this newer model doesn't have the same suction power of the ~10 years old model that I replaced.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
