I bought this at the beginning of November, used it two times and now it stopped working. Piece of garbage.

Dell External Plug-and-Play DVD/CD Reader/Writer

Works well as advertised but feels very delicate compared to the internal reader/writer I had in my desktop before that one gave up the ghost. As new desktops will not have internal disc drives, figured I may as well switch now to protect the future. Eventually I will have to replace the second reader/writer (one feeds the other) but that one, a Sony Optiarc AD-7240S R/W, has outlasted the five or six previous units of lesser quality that I had to purchase over the years. The cheaper ones do not last very long. The Dell replaces a Pioneer unit which really did not last as long as I thought it should, but, of course, they all outlasted their short warranties. I bought an extended warranty with the new Dell (just in case).
I would recommend this to a friend!

External DVD

I was thrilled with the service. I ordered it one day and it was delivered the next day. I did see some of the reviews commenting on how flimsy it was and I do agree with this. I have the most difficult time pushing the little button to get the drawer to open and have resorted to going to the drive on my computer and clicking on the eject button. It is very lightweight. However, it does do the job! I have burned several CD's since hooking it up and it works just great so I am very pleased with that. The unit does not come with instructions and I'm a senior so it would be nice if written instructions were included for those of us who are not so tech savvy. Thankfully my sister was able to sign on remotely and get it all set up and working for me.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Little Unit

I know in this day & age of streaming services DVDs are old school, but I have a mob of yoga videos I like & wanted to use them on my new laptop, which, like most newer model computers doesn't have an optical drive. This one was well-priced & I've never been disappointed with anything I've bought from Best Buy. The unit itself is solidly-made & comes with a cord & software. For some reason getting the software set up was trickier than it should have been -- I don't know if it was me or the software itself (some instructions would have been nice) -- but I got it working finally & it does exactly what I wanted. Good value for the money.

2 dvd drives are better than 1

I somehow ended up with a few region 2 dvd's which can't be played on my region 1 dvd drive. Actually, they can be played but I have to reconfigure my drive to be region 2 and that reconfiguration swap can only be done 4 times. After that the configuration becomes permanent. Yuck.
I bought this drive to see if I could configure it as region 2 and leave the internal dvd drive defined as region 1. It worked! Plus, the region 2 configuration stays with the drive which means I can plug it into another computer and that computer will also see it as a region 2 drive.
I wish I'd thought of trying this a few years ago.
As other reviewers have mentioned, this drive is well built and it really is plug 'n play (no extra drivers needed).
I would recommend this to a friend!

Haven't used it much yet except for downloading a few programs off of discs but don't think I should have any problems as I have always been able to count on Dell before.
