Need to buy two or more.

For modem/WiFi back up, you need to keep the battery pack in place and can not take it with you if you want 24/7 120volt back up. Solution: If you buy 2 compleat units, you have double the charging capacity, can swap out the battery packs as needed and the primary modem back up can always be kept running since the UPS battery pack is "hot Swapable" . The second unit can be plugged into the WiFi/Modem back up durring extended power outages so you have twice the back up time. The pass through feature can charge double the number of devices while charging and you can take one of them with you fully charged while the second one protects you back up UPS needs. The second unit can also provide emergency lighting with 120 volt power for LED lamps durring a power outage so you can see while your modem keeps you connected.

Worst UPS ever

On simple brownouts - my surgesupressor keeps going - this (with a full battery) blacks out. Totally useless.

Great while it lasted

I bought this and the UPS that it went with a few years back as a battery backup for my modem and firewall. It worked fantastic, and allowed me to keep those devices up through several power failures. All batteries have a usable lifetime, and mine failed a few weeks ago. Came looking for a replacement, and I'm extremely disappointed to find out that they've discontinued them. Perhaps it was too niche of a market, I can say though I won't be buying another UPS that uses such a wildly proprietary battery. Both the battery and the UPS are worthless devices to me at this point, unless a 3rd party starts manufacturing replacements.
Pros: Easy to Perform Maintenance
Cons: Part Failure, Lacking Vendor Support

I used to have two UPSs'. Now that the battery pack is discontinued, the are mere surge protectors. They worked great until the battery pack died. Now, I need to find another UPS. Will the new one become 'discontinued'? This will weigh heavily on my choice.
Pros: High Quality
Cons: Runs Hot, Part Failure, Lacking Vendor Support

I've always used a UPS on my desktop computer, which I use to work from home - it's perfect for a short power outage or fluctuation, as happens here in semi-rural Arkansas during stormy or windy weather. Usually if we have a power outage it's for a few minutes at most, and if it goes on for more than 10 minutes I have a manual standby generator wired into a transfer switch so I can fire that up.
In the past I had my cable modem, router, and Ethernet switch all on my desk in my home office, so all were plugged into the same UPS that runs my desktop computer. When we moved a few months ago, the home office in my new house is now at one end of the house - not ideal spot for Wi-Fi for the house, so I wanted to locate the modem & router in another room, and the Ethernet switch went in the basement for convenience of wiring up a couple computers and a printer spread around the house.

The APC Back-UPS Connect 50 is an innovative solution and backup. I like the modular component and flexibility.
