Great Time Cooking

I love having a great gas range and the center burner is awesome. Easier to cleaner the cooktop than I thought it would be. Plenty of room for baking and at the right temperature finally. I'm not used to convection cooking at all, so I need to try it out more, but not that important. Looking forward to using the baking/warming drawer more.
I've had this range for about 5 months now, and just did my first Thanksgiving dinner with it. It is excellent for baking and roasting and stove top cooking. I used the bottom baking drawer for the first time. Wonderful.
I love everything about my new range, which replaced a 30 yr. old drop in elec. oven. There is one thing about this oven I didn't realize, which is that the fan comes on when you set it above 350 degrees, and is somewhat noisy. It stays on after you turn oven off until it has cooled down, so if you eat in the kitchen it takes a little getting used to but overall it is great.
I bought this stove after a lot of research and it had MOST of the features I wanted at a price I was willing to pay. Dual fuel, five burners, temperature probe, nice robust appearance, second oven, and power burners, to name a few. I've enjoyed cooking with it and do recommend it as a very nice stove.
The most annoying thing is the short length of the temperature probe. Clearly the engineer who designed it never actually tried to use it. It works OK but you have to work around the length to find a position close enough to the probe connection. The book recommends cooking roasts on the lowest grate but that means you have to push the roast to the left instead of in the center of the oven. The Non-GE oven I had before had a nice long probe and I never had a problem. Another six inches of cable would make a big difference but GE doesn't appear to sell a longer probe.
The other thing you have to cope with is the easily scratched stainless steel top. It looks great but they should have used a more textured pattern to something less prone to scratching. I knew this from other reviewers before I bought the stove and I am OK with it but not sure it's a great design feature.
The feature it SHOULD have but doesnt is bread proofing. My old oven had it. In my case I got the Advantium microwave with this stove and it has proofing so I still got the feature, just not in the range.
I am happy overall with my purchase and don't think I would pick another brand within my budget.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a special treat to myself, I finally got the gas five burner stove I had been searching for...and did not have to give up the electric ovens I was used to! The increased btu's cook quickly and evenly and the ovens are precise and functionally sized--no waste of energy here! After 5 months of usage I wonder what took me so long!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I couldn't be happier with my GE Cafe range. The dual-fuel feature combining the best of gas stove-top with TWO full-functioning electric ovens has made cooking and baking easier and more fun. I love the center oval-shaped burner for braising and poaching in a oval roaster or using the griddle that is included. A friend who just built a new house and bought a different brand asked for the griddle to go with her range as a Mothers' Day gift. When she heard that my griddle came witht the range, she said, "I bought the wrong stove." I have been able to do oven meals using one oven for the main dish and baking in the oven drawer at a different temperature. I love this being a full oven, not just a warming drawer. Finally, the free-standing design with the look of a slide-in gave me the flexibility and look I needed in my remodel. Thank you for building a professional feature range in the dimension I could use in my tiny kitchen!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a great range, but I can't use the convection feature because the fan hits the metal housing. I have had a GE technician come out and pronounced the problem fixed, but after a week it was still making a banging metal sound. It is very frustrating. When the fan was silent, the oven was wonderful.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this a year ago and have no problems whatsoever. I agree with other reviews, that the power boil feature is awesome. Can't believe how fast my water boils! The range top is beautiful but does require immediate clean up to keep it looking pristine. The lower oven drawer was wonderful to have during the holidays. It keeps things warm and also bakes. Haven't tried the baking yet. I have received many compliments on the way it looks too. I love this range.
