Just bought this unit, and very happy so far. Many reviews said the heating time was "slow", which is vague, but it is at least as fast as other duel fuel ovens I have owned. I also read reviews that said the burners weren't very powerful, however, I used the included kit to convert mine to propane service and I don't think it would be practical to have burners with higher heat output. In fact, I would say that the burners almost output too much heat on the low setting. Propane has a lower energy density than natural gas, so I can't imagine the natural gas configuration having lower output. My guess is that those reviews were from people who had either incorrectly installed the conversion kit, didn't install it when it was needed, plugged up the line with teflon tape/pipe dope, or connected the unit to a gas line that was too small or horribly kinked. Only complaint is the plastic adjustable legs, which don't provide much adjustment and are pretty flimsy. If they are adjusted out 3/4" or so you can see them flexing when you slide the unit into place. The threaded shaft should have been much larger in diameter and longer.
The best upgrade and highest Consumer Report ratings I researched for my new gourmet kitchen. It's a pro at looks and performance. GE...Genuine Excellence.
This is an upgrade from an electric range, and I'm glad I did. I love the warming drawer (already gotten some use at Thanksgiving and Christmas) and the space inside the oven itself. Haven't used the griddle yet so I can't speak for that. I'm pleased after 2 months of use.
I absolutely love cooking on the gas stove and baking in the oven. The griddle attachment is great for everything from pancakes to grilled cheese. The oven bakes evenly even when I have two pans in at the same time.
all in all I am happy I have the GE Cafe duel fuel, The gas burners are great-love the low simmer burner, I did not want 5 burners but with this range the center burner's grill is lower than the grates so it covers the middle burner providing a place to put spoons etc. I wanted the controls on the front of the range-other models have the controls on the top where the burners are, and spills happen, or on the backsplash neither of which I think are practical. This range also has a backsplash option which is handy if you have an older kitchen. Instead of a storage drawer most models including this one have warming or oven drawers, which I will never use, but this Cafe range oven drawer is still large enough to store my frying pans-a real need, though at 5" it was not deep enough for my DeBeyer carbon steel one. Looking ahead GE may want to reconsider the electronic controls; up or down keys for temperature, instead of a numbered key pad may make the control pad smaller. I am happy with my GE Cafe range
Purchased this oven A side in GE Cafe Convection with dual oven below 8 Yrs ago,had trouble from the very start the SS finish scratches very easily, the big range knobs first discolors then the aluminum finish came off- then all of the burner caps warped so it did not cook right this range always cooked very uneven when sauteing I called customer service plenty of times and was told they could not do anything ,as of late the burners now leak gas and the auto start for the pilot light does not click anymore ,You have to light it with a match This is the worst range /oven ever . Never again will I buy another GE product .There is simply NO quality control ! Don't be fooled by how good it looks like I did
