Love our new range

We have had our new Café dual fuel range for about a month now and we are very pleased with it. We did a lot of research and felt this range best met our needs. It replaced our 26 year old electric range. We chose the dual fuel because we still do a lot of canning and wanted to go with gas for the cooktop and we wanted the even baking that an electric oven gives. I love the large oven window and the smaller baking drawer underneath. And with the powerful burners, you can boil water in no time flat. However, the one small back "simmer" burner is just that, don't try to get something to boil on that burner as it will take forever.The only thing I am disappointed about is the time bake feature. You have to go through a series of steps to get to a time bake mode (see manual for detailed info regarding this special feature). The oven has a delay start button/feature and a cooking time button/feature, but you can use only one or the other. One lets you start the oven at whatever time you program in and the other button/feature lets you bake for however much time you program in. Both of those features are easy to use, but as I mentioned before I would have preferred to have a time bake mode on the front panel so I could program when I want the oven to start and stop (without having to go through a series of steps). But maybe nobody else will see this as an issue. I read other reviews on how the front control panel was too low or too hard to read, but I disagree with both of those statements. I also read other reviews on how easily the surface scratched, so I have been very diligent to wipe up any spills right away so they don't get baked on. Even with one feature I am disappointed about, I would highly recommend this to anyone. I have not used the temperature probe yet, but I like having that feature. Hope this helps.

Couple weeks in and love it.

Being a Chef I wanted the quality and functionallity of a commercial unit, but needed the look and appearance that the Mrs's approved of in our new kitchen. With the Cafe we both got what we wanted. Burner BTU options are perfect for every day use and serious cooking. Tested oven temp on bake and convection at 250/300/350/400 and was only 1 degree off on each which is amazing.
Continuous cooktop is level and smooth.
Feel I made the best choice after months of comparing.

Poor design

1-Touch screen on front of range is activated unintentionally by the cook standing in front of the range, reaching for the back burners, or cleaning the cooktop; changes existing settings.The keypad can be deactivated but it also shuts off gas to the cooktop so you can't cook.
2- 50 weeks after installation we put cooktop grates inside oven and ran "self clean" function. The oven door automatically locks during self cleaning. When the cleaning cycle was over, the oven door did not unlock. We couldn't use the cooktop or the oven for a week, waiting for service. The only way to access the lock mechanism is to force the oven door open enough to cut the lock rod off. It damaged the door, destroyed the lock, and the stove still "thinks" the door is locked, so we can't turn on the oven. Horrible design.
Lastly, GE started 1 warranty at purchase, not installation. At 11 months of light use, GE refused consideration, insisting on purchase date as the start date. No more GE products in this home. GE website will not upload photo.

Perfect temperature control!

We have been using this oven for about 3 months and are extremely happy with the performance. Temperature control is excellent (verified with thermal Fluke gun). Just cooked a 16 lb. turkey with convection oven in 2 hours and 20 minutes, using Butterball online recipe, it was great, no hot spots or dark skin.

Vintage Flair!

The GE Café Range is one of the most beautiful ranges I have ever seen and I know how the pleasure of cooking with it. I love the knobs in the front of the unit. So much safer then reaching over hot burners. They are vintage looking and quite sturdy! The warming drawer was such an added bonus plus a Cast Iron pan included! My most favorite feature is the lack of a back panel. This one has a very polished, low profile vent, adding to it's character.

Fabulous range for real cooks

Chosen after months of research for kitchen renovation. Changed from a gas cooktop/electric wall oven to dual-fuel range with NO regrets and got a Warming/Baking drawer without losing cabinet space besides (yes, IT IS A WARMING DRAWER). The main oven is huge inside, but the racks are not as heavy-duty as those in my original GE Profile and bow under excessive weight (cast-iron dutch oven full of stew), the convection oven baked multiple racks of cookies with no problem, and the "Probe" feature makes cooking roasts foolproof. The stove burners are amazing: the front 20K BTU burner boils water in minutes and then turns down to allow a wine reduction over hours (it can be a little twitchy at times...), the front 17K BTU burner can boil the spaghetti while you saute Aglio e Olio on the tri-burner - nice! On the down side, the stainless does not clean up well and is easily scratched when moving the grates, and the knobs don't click off and can be turned without pushing them in.
