Husband LOVES it!

I got this razor for my husband who- by the way- HATES change! He has used a Norelco razor for as long as I can remember! He's one of those people that does not like change. If it works- why change? I asked him to do me the favor of trying the razor for at least 2 weeks to get an honest impression. The first day, he came to me and said "Well- it's certainly faster than my razor". A few days later he said " It gives me a better shave than my other razor". On use #3 he said "It charges quicker than mine." Finally, at the end of 2 weeks I asked him which razor he preferred. He gave a thumbs way up to his new Remington! Looks like he's converted! Thanks Remington!

This razor will most likely turn out to be an excellent purchase. So far, it is working well. 3 concerns:
1. They say it should be lubricated, but they don't tell you what to use for a lubricant.
2. The protective cap on the blade assembly does not stay on at all.
3. There are zero instructions describing what the blinking light means. How do we know when charging is needed? How do we know when charging is finished?
The unit is much easier to clean than a Norelco.
It remains to be seen how durable it is.
Also unknown at this time is whether the blade(s) can be replaced.

Average but better than other brands

I would like to say woo hoo! ,However, my old tripple screen still out preforms this model. Maybe it just needs to wear in and it will preform better??? One can hope. But as stated.. Remington still produces better shavers than other competition.

Great product in/out of water

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recieved this product for free to try and review. It arrived in a nice, appealing package. I found this shaver very easy to use. It only needed to be charged for two hours before the first initial use. I really loved that it has a sideburn trimmer built right in. This was a very easy to use shaver, it was smooth and got almost everything in one pass just like it states. However, there were a few places I had to go over more than once, but I am not complaining. I found that it did not irritate my skin what-so-ever and that it left my skin feeling soft and smooth. I really enjoyed the fact that this product can be used in or out of the shower and although I don't usually use shaving cream, I like that you have that option. This product came in a nice royal blue color which I loved! I also found that it can hold a charge for a good while. I have been using it for over two weeks now and havn't had to recharge it yet. I am very happy with this product and would absolutely recommend this to anyone in the market for an electric shaver.

Shaves very close

I bought the xf8550 to replace another Remington shaver that the battery had died and I am glad I bought this razor. I had to learn how to shave with it but once I did I was able to get a very smooth shave. Shaving in circles did not work for me but shaving against the grain did. I do not have a real thick beard but I can shave anywhere from daily to 3 days and I get the same smooth shave in about 10 minutes. I do use Lectric Shave and Skin Bracer before and after I shave and I have no problems getting a smooth shave. I tried shaving dry and it does ok but it does better with the pre-shave lotion. I am very pleased so far with this razor.

Just received my XF8550 Hybrid Foil on Thursday. Got tired of buying new blades for a crazy price, & got tired of the beard I decided to grow instead. The itchy, dry face from the beard just had to go. Glad I went this route.
Did some diligent research over the last 2 weeks, & decided to go with this Remington XF8550. Having used a Remington Rotary electric years ago in my 20's, I was extremely skeptical, as the rotary electric gave me very red skin irritation. Felt like my skin was burning for 10 minutes after I'd finish. Plus, it felt more like it was plucking hairs, rather than cutting them. So after that experience, I just wasn't sure about getting another electric. But, with blade costs being so ridiculously high these days, I had to try something.
Having researched some & learned that Foil's work better for sensitive skin, I started comparing the big brands, Braun, Panasonic, Norelco, & Remington. Braun, was just too spendy for my budget, as was Panasonic, for what I wanted. Norelco really offered nothing outside the typical 3 head Foil that I found in my price range. Once I came across this XF8550 Hybrid Foil system from Remington, & read dozens of reviews, I pulled the trigger, & decided to give it a shot. So far, very glad I did.
Having just received it, I've only had a chance to use it today finally. I am thoroughly surprised, & VERY impressed. The unit itself is very light, the motor is not that noisy, & I love the wet shave system. I washed my face, grabbed my trusty & faithful Edge shaving gel, lathered up a thin layer, wet the Foil under running water, & the adventure began. I really gotta say, it does a great job. Took me a few minutes to get used to using it, but once I did, I ended up with a shave that's dang near as close as a straight edge. I got the usual rough spots I always have, but otherwise this Hybrid Foil works great. I did have some very minor irritation, since it was the first time I used it, but that went away pretty quick within a minute or two. Aside from that, all worked well. The ONLY thing I did have to use my regular disposable for, was for shaving straight edges on my goatee, otherwise, the Hybrid Foil did all the work, & did it well.
One thing I do need to point out though. The pop-up trimmer on the back, is very tricky to use. Because of it's location, it is very hard to see what you are trimming, as the shaver head blocks your view. You need to look at a downward angle in order to see what you are doing. But, the trimmer did also do a great job where used.
For anyone in the market for an electric, & can't decide on Foil, or Rotary, or what model to get, I absolutely recommend the Hybrid Foil system in the XF8550/XF8700. It worked great for me, & this is from someone with very tough facial hair, in his 40's who has almost always used certain Mach blades. Had zero issues cutting, or anything. From what I understand, once your face & hair get accustomed to using the Foil, it will only get better.
Don't look any further. The XF8550, or the XF8700, are both outfitted with the Hybrid Foil system, (only difference is the XF8700 has an LED readout, charges a hair faster, & lasts a hair longer) & I HIGHLY recommend giving it a try. You won't be disappointed. For the money, you will NOT find a better electric. Plus, if after a few weeks you decide it's not for you, Remington offers their 60 days guarantee. So what have you got too lose?
**Be sure to follow the directions if you are new to these shavers. While shaving, rinse it every few strokes, so you are getting a continuous clean shave, from clean blades. Otherwise, hair & shaving cream will build up in the blades/head, affecting performance.
