Just two days ago, I opened up and inserted the new HP colored ink cartridge I'd bought within the past month into my still-functioning HP deskjet 1000. I wanted to include with my holiday cards a one-page poem with a small picture of the poet - size 2 1/8 x 1 7/8 inches - on it. I printed out 3 copies, then stopped. BECAUSE WHILE THE 1ST 2 PRINTS WERE OKAY - THE 3rd COPY WAS STREAKED WITH REDDISH LINES. I've got zero idea why. Decided I'll print from now on with the black ink cartridge only.

Hi there,
I am disappointed to learn a leak interrupted your printing. I completely get your frustration. There are a few remediation steps to move forward. It is either a leak or extra ink residue on the ink rollers.
The first remedy is taking the cartridge out to check for leaks. If you do not see a leak, it could be from a smudge or residue on the printer rollers. Clean the cartridge printhead and the rollers.
Going forward, here are some tips on installing cartridges: Gently grasp the handles on either side of the printer. Make sure the cartridge locks in place. Let the cartridge carriage move to the middle and adjust before use. Be careful to only touch the black plastic on the ink cartridge. Remove the plastic tape from the ink cartridge.
