I teach Shabbat school so I'm always printing a lot of lesson the print is good have had some smearing with another product. The ink last long

I just installed the HP 61XL Black ink cartridge in my HP Deskjet 3054 printer and it started to print my previously scanned items and would not stop printing until I turned the power off. Apparently there was a communication malfunction between my Mac which runs Lion and the printer which are connected by a USB cable. If I didn't shut the power off, my new ink cartridge would would now be empty. HP tech support was terrific. Has anyone had a similar problem?

I know it says it lasts for 300 pages I think, but it doesn't seem to last that long. But when I do print the quality is excellent!
