Mid tier spec high end performance.

The HTC One A9 on paper doesn't look to be good, but HTC figured out that if they have a very efficient processor that Android can run smoothly without the draw backs of a high end processor. People may also write off this phone for copying Apple's phones. While that may or may not be the truth, the build quality of this phone is in the ranks of premium phones for a fraction of the price. If you're looking for a phone that is well built, runs well, and doesn't cost as much as a flagship then this phone is for you.

Ignore specs. This is a great phone.

Looking at the specs on this phone, I was a little hesitant to go for it, but after using it for a few days now, I am really impressed! The processor is considered mid-range by spec geeks, and maybe it's the help of android 6, but this phone operates buttery smooth for everyday tasks. Apps open quickly compared to my HTC One M8 which has an older but faster processor. Also, it doesn't heat up like M8 when it starts thinking too hard. I don't use my phone to play Call of Duty so maybe that's what people who care a lot about specs will base it off, but I haven't experienced any performance issues with this phone. The fingerprint sensor is also super fast.
As for the design, yes it's clearly ripping off the iphone 6, but both this and the iphone are beautiful phones. Who cares. I'd even say it looks better than the iphone. My only complaint about both phones is that they are a little *too* light, which makes them feel a little toyish... yet still premium. The screen looks great (which again spec geeks will complain that its only 1080p, but in my opinion 1080p is more than enough and still better than a iphone 6/6s).
My main point of hesitation when getting this phone was the small battery, especially coming from the M8 which was amazing. The bad new is, the battery is not great, BUT it is not bad either. I used up 50% from 10am til 10pm with moderate use, and that's good enough for me. So it depends on what your needs are.
I think what HTC are going for with the A series is an emphasis on a thin, light and aesthetically pleasing phone, and so to make that possible they had to start with a smaller battery, slower processor, and efficient screen. I think for most people that's good enough, and if you are like me and love the HTC One, I would recommend this phone. Many people would call it a "mid-range" phone but it doesn't feel like one at all.

I buy a lot of phones because I can be picky. I was a long-time iPhone user and got away from them to discover Android. I've had the galaxy s6, the s6 active, the iPhone 6s and the lg g4 and v10. This htc is my go to all around phone. The build quality is as good or better than the iPhone. Its clearly better than the galaxy series. The interface is minimal and the screen is excellent at 1080p. The battery life is better than the s6 and better than the iPhone 6s. The customization available to this phone is awesome and I have it just how I like it. It's fast and smooth to use and it looks beautiful. I was at a concert and shot numerous videos that delivered both the audio and the video. This is a great and underappreciated device. You won't regret getting one

Great perfomance, just keep a charger handy

I have had the phone for 1 day, its very fast and i love the look and feel, and the price.Horrible battery life! I let the battery die last night and charged it over night. I unplugged it at 9:30 am, it is know 10:20 am and I am down to 85% battery already. I have only used it to check my emails and check face book. It has a quick charge feature that makes up for it, but still very disappointing that battery life has been sacrificed just so the phone can be thinner. My old nokia 1520, which was a huge phone and very powerful could last a few days with out charging, so this is gonna take some getting used to. Still a good phone, HTC needs to make case with a built in battery. If you are a heavy user, I would not recommend this phone unless you have access to charger.

An affordable alternative to more powerful phones

As most individuals who focus on evaluating long term purchases, it is all in the details. So, if you want the specifics, I would look at the countless media reviews of this phone. The pros for me : cost, expandable micro SD slot, gorilla glass 4, slim design, solid feel as with most HTC One phones (had an HTC One 7), decent display, decent camera/video, and Android marshmellow. The cons : battery life and the single speaker vs dual speaker of HTC One 7. The single speaker is really not an issue because the digital sound with headphones is good. Like any technology such as phones, it will become outdated - I am sure something better will come out. My advice is to think about why and when you nee d a new phone.

Phone works fune

Upset that I dropped it first week I got it and the screen cracked. There were no phone cases available yet. I have insurance but they don't list it yet and HTC doesn't help on the A9 since I bought it from my wireless company. Have a broken phone that is beginning to appear difficult to replace. I thought the store would just replace it but that's not how it works. Like the phone, little unhappy that I haven't gotten replaced yet. I work a lot in an auto shop so it's hard to find time to call multiple places or get a run around. Advise please.
