Returning to TT after a one year try with competitive product. There's not comparison, here. TT is #1
What's great about it: Walkthrough was simple and concise
What's not so great: Need a few more items in the Charitable Items Valuation

Version this year seemed less user friendly. Too often no alternative ways of input allowed. Preview directions prior to filing too complicated - only need to say click file, click print, follow directions.
What's great about it: Step by step walk throughs.
What's not so great: Did not have alternative box input for a 1099-R which did not follow normal inputs.

Good as usual, but payment glitches on Mac

I have been using TurboTax Mac (or its predecessor MacInTax) since the mid-1980s and I have always found it fairly simple to use and file. This year was no exception. I filed my Federal and NY taxes, as well as my son's Federal, NY and MD taxes.
The only problem I encountered was when I tried to purchase an additional state online -- the dialog would come up but it would never complete. After a week or two of checking the TurboTax help forums, I eventually found a fix (executing a Terminal command on the Mac) that made purchasing work as designed.
However, the problem should not have been there, and once it was reported, TurboTax should have fixed it in an update. That cost them a star in this review.
What's great about it: Easy to prepare, use and file Federal and State
What's not so great: Problem purchasing from Inuit from within program on Mac

12 year TT user

There seam to be TOO MANY TT products now. Like buying toothpaste- there used to be toothpaste for everything, now there is toothpaste that only does this or only does that, then there's complete care or (too singularly) care for this specific purpose or that specific purpose. TT has become more and more confusing about which product to use. If people do not know exactly what forms to use and why, let TT ask them the questions. Why did TT eliminate many of the forms "to make it easy". People buy and use TT simply because they DO NOT KNOW which forms to use and why. That is how I learned- TT asked me questions and I answered yes or no. I learned which forms I need and those I don't. But since things change every year I may not know from this year to the next- I could be missing something simply because I don't know the questions to ask. TT used to ask me everything. Now, apparently, I need to know what to ask, and then figure out how/where to find it- and then, ultimately, having to UPGRADE!
Also, for years I have been saying, please LABEL the page I am working on. I am married and file jointly. I do both my numbers AND my wife's. We both have W-2 income AND Sched C income. It sometimes gets very confusing which one I am working on, "is this mine or was it her's? Am I in 1040 or Sched C?" All it needs is a label saying my name, or my wife's name on the page I am working.
Aside from these annoyances I find TT to be a fantastic tool.
What's great about it: I love how easy most of it is- once you know what you're doing...
What's not so great: Changes from the past few years were unnecessary and confusing.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I have always liked turbo tax, last year was the first year that I had to have a CPA do my taxes in a while, but now that I am not a realtor any longer will use the Turbo Tax programs.
What's great about it: made the questions basic so I could understand
What's not so great: none
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
