What's great about it: Logical process, forms filled out for you, prints IRS-acceptable forms
What's not so great: Hard to find forms needing error correction. Had to leave tax form itself, and hunt through 'Forms' to find it.

still my first choice this year

In 2015 the return process for the federal + state got more seamless. It is very easy to use though the ever increasing complexity of tax law is not helping. Some rules are either plain conflicting, or very obscure in terminology, so at a certain point there *will* be a deduction that will have you run in circles. My experience with CPAs is that they will recklessly suggest a shortcut and ultimately you are responsible for understanding the complexity of your tax situation. TurboTax at least offers a complete list of possible alternatives which are relatively well explained with pop-ups and filler text. Not perfect, but I do feel safer than I did when I used a CPA.
Next year, with a college freshman to account for, things may change. Even this year when my kid took dual enrollment college classes I am still not clear whether his tuition and scholarship grant should go on my return, or on his own, separate return. The software gave me very confusing and conflicting directions!
What's great about it: comprehensive and very through
What's not so great: ran in circles with tuition/grant for dual enrollment H/S student

Fast and easy

Turbo Tax makes filing returns 100% easier than trying to fill out forms by hand. Importing information from previous year's return is a definite plus. Wish the USA tax system was less complicated. Thanks to Turbo Tax my anxiety about filing is greatly reduced.
What's great about it: Easy to follow step by step
What's not so great: I wondered why my personal exemption changed, Wish I could have multiple windows open at same time.

I think if you can download W-2 information, then even when you are entering it yourself, once you hit the continue button the program should be able to notify you if the information you entered for your federal income and then the state & ID # don't match up. This would have saved me significant time as I had to go back and find the error on my own. Not even the review caught the mistake.
What's great about it: Turbo Tax is helpful and provides extra hints to explain information that is needed for your return.
What's not so great: Didn't catch that my state income was a different state than the Tax ID # or from Federal Income.

My overall experience with TurboTax Deluxe was good. As a long-time do it by hand person, I had a little trouble letting go and letting the software do the calculations in a black box, but it was nice having some things upload automatically. And I look forward to next year when my basic info will already be in there. The only real problem I had was that TurboTax told me one of my children could be claimed as a dependent but, after careful reading of the IRS rules, I am quite sure that is not correct.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
