frustrating

I have used Turbo Tax for several years. Accessing the 2015 program was very frustrating for me. I downloaded the program per directions, and when I clicked on the 2015 icon, I got the tax questions for 2012. I honestly do not know why. Answering the questions was not an issue for my 2015 tax return. Jumping through the numerous hoops to locate the 2015 program on my MAC was the issue. Again not sure why after downloading the 2015 program and then clicking on the 2015 turbo tax icon, the program was for the 2012 tax year.

I have used the product for several years. I have found the prompts to be easy to understand most of the time without jargon. I have recommended TurboTax to many friends and relatives.
This time I stumbled in filing to N.C. and afterwards found the easier steps I should have taken. In fact, I may have double filed to the the state. And I never before had to send paper to the state department of revenue to accompany the e-file. So that confused me. Trust me, however, if I'm around next year I'll be a return customer. I expect to get out of windows xp by then.
What's great about it: It is user friendly
What's not so great: some boxes, like this one, are faint for ageing eyes

Use Every Year

We always manually review our returns before filing. As professional numbers people, we need to know exactly how each entry is calculated. This is sometimes a problem on the Federal portion, but more so on the State portion. The Federal portion makes it easy to go back and check every step. The State portion has no step-by-step process to check out the entries. It would be very helpful, for every "calculated" entry, to have not only a so,urce, but also a calculation pop-up. The "worksheets" are good, but not thorough enough for us. I usually do all the data entry. Then my husband checks over the printed forms and needs to know where the numbers come from and how they are calculated. The State portion (for our state) uses prorating on some entries when "married filing separate" . A worksheet showing these calculations in detail is not currently included, but would make checking the State forms much easier. Some things that are frustrating are entries that seem to disappear if I go back to recheck certain items: such as HSA's and Medicare in the Federal program, and Automobile tax calculation on the state. If I need to recheck, I have to re-enter answers to several questions. If they were answered once, the answers should still be in the program and I should only need to visually verify that they are correct. Another thing that would be very helpful would be to include the IRS and State instructions with the program, possibly as an option that the user could download through the Turbo-Tax program. Importing information from the previous year is makes it easy to get started every year. Tracking IRA's is made simpler as everything is carried forward with each year's import. Overall, Turbo-Tax has been greatly improved since we first started using it many years ago.
What's great about it: The step-by-step for Federal is very good. I like the ability to look at the forms as I go along.
What's not so great: It is hard to follow where all the numbers come from when going thru the state portion of the program.
Pros: I moved

Smooth product that manages an excessively complex system pretty well. Some deductions and exemptions could be a less obtuse but I suspect the government(s) at fault here rather than TurboTax.
What's great about it: Works well, no bugs
What's not so great: Needs to list more financial institutions
