I always use Turbo Tax software. Its the best way to go, if you don't feel comfortable having someone looking at all of your personal information. I have never had a problem.

Don't Trust TurboTax on State Return
on February 18, 2016
Posted by: ELZIE
I generally file my state return online myself. Last year, TurboTax said I owed state taxes, but when I did it online in the state system, I got a refund of $178. Then, when TurboTax imported my state return this year, they adjusted things to show I was due a state return as well. So, I am only giving a rating of Fair, because they blew it last year. I will also file the state online myself this year again, because I am not sure I can trust TurboTax on the state return.
What's great about it: Easy to do Federal Return
What's not so great: Don't trust them on State Return

Once again, you have made this easy enough for even me to do my own taxes with enough confidence that they are done right.
What's great about it: simplicity
What's not so great: price
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Simply Easy

Overall I was very satisfied. The only problem I had was when I reviewed my taxes there were numbers , I guess generated by turbo tax, that I needed to change so it was not always easy to know where to make those changes or how to check the numbers generated by turbo tax for accuracy. So I trusted turbo tax and turbo tax calculations.
What's great about it: Ease of use and accuracy
What's not so great: Making Changes and finding where to make those changes
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

MAY STILL BE BETTER THAN PAPER
on February 18, 2016

I've used TurboTax for several years. I used to do it on paper too to be sure it all worked out the same. I now trust the software and also use ItsDeductable throughout the year. Nice download.
The problem is that you have a choice of starting online before the disks are in the stores. If you do, the system can't find a return from last year unless it's on your same computer; and visa versa.
That's not a plus. If the same account for ItsDeductable can load, why can't it remember my return as well as my wife's who files separately?
There are increasingly complex parts to our tax code; but asking the same question more than once seems to increase the chance of miss filing.
Having finished my return, I started my wife's; only to be told that there were updates to be downloaded. Ten minutes later, the message came that there were no new updates and I could start my filing. Did I file with incomplete software or did I waste time because the software couldn't tell that it was updated weeks earlier?
These are the types of things that make me wonder if Turbotax is still on top of its game.
A single state return used to come with Deluxe version and filed free … now it's an extra $20. Investment downloads used to be included with Deluxe. They can still be handled, but, the ad implies that you need to buy Premiere. Rather than offering a returning customer an upgrade discount, they seem to be charging a premium to do the same thing.
I need a good reason to stay the course rather than trying some other vendor.
What's great about it: Easy reference to last years returns … if you used the same form.
What's not so great: Too many redundant questions
Pros: I bought or sold investments
