Turbo Taz Review

The process was very clear and simple this year. Tapping on the anticipated questions were very helpful. Like that I was able to go back and review at any point.
What's great about it: Very eash this year
What's not so great: hate paying for State return
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Accurate but not simple

A must for electronic filing, but I could have done it much quicker with a spreadsheet and IRS down-load forms. I would have missed items, though, like qualified dividends at lower tax rate. It still was a good but challenging experience.
Did not import one of two W2. Imports from W2, brokerage firm, and personal financial software (SW) caused multiple duplicate entries that had to be sorted out. GIGO - categorization in my SW didn't always match up with TurboTax line items (deposit box, Dividends vs. _Dividends, etc.). It helped immensely having a spreadsheet summary and SW summary in advance. "Override" action in the dividends worksheet didn't update the sheet as expected, and was different after exiting and restarting - had to adjust again.
Has single line & date rollup for non-cash contributions to one charity rather than multiple lines under $500 for each gift.
Great to have all the worksheets interactive and available in one place, and to not have to do the math separately.

What's not so great: Double-dip with W2, broker, and finance software imports

i question state bill

With little change from 2014 numbers the state deductions were only half of 2014 in 2015, costing me a lot of money. This may be reality or a mistake?

W-2 problems

It skipped a W-2 form and wouldn't let me go back and add it.

Can It Get Any Better

Turbo Tax is just too easy. I look forward to getting my taxes done each year and getting the most refund back. I will always be back year after year!!

I do tax returns for family and several seniors who can't afford to pay to have their taxes done. I do them all free for them, but last year it started to cost me money to go on line to file them electronically. For now, I do not pass this cost on to them, but at some point I may not be able to afford to do this free for them. I worry about them be able to afford it. Will Turbo Tax ever increase this number to ten? Also, I have taught several people how to do their own taxes using Turbo Tax on line.
What's great about it: Easy & convenient
What's not so great: Only allowing 5 free filings.
