Let's me explore options

I'm a lifetime TurboTax user, and every year the software and support is better. What I especially like is being able to tweak how I report income and deduct expenditures by saving different versions of my taxes. I prefer the interview format, but it can be annoying to page through the same questions over and over again. A navigation menu at the side would help with that.
What's great about it: I can test different ways of handling my income and deductions
What's not so great: Having to go through all the interview questions to make a change

If you HAVE to pay taxes Turbotax it

When you have to pay your taxes nothing is more daunting than trying to figure out all the myriad ways you can mess up. Well not with Turbo Tax. Simple information is what you need to complete EVERYTHING having to do with your return. Turbo Tax seems to have every conceivable life situation well in hand when helping to calculate what you owe AND help you to get it back!! I love the audit protection feature and the direct deposit. SO EASY!!!
What's great about it: Fast Easy Understandable
What's not so great: why focus on THAT?

quirky and unreliable for expat taxpayers

TurboTax just drops the ball -- repeatedly -- for overseas taxpayers. I've been using it for years and every year I have to rediscover all the odd workarounds that are necessary to complete form 2555 (Foreign Earned Income Exclusion# and form 1116 #Foreign Tax Credit) correctly. On most other forms, information flows correctly from form to form so that everything should be consistent. For these two forms, though, TurboTax doesn't do this and we hapless taxpayers are on our own. I keep expecting that TurboTax will finally fix the glitchy mess that they've made with these forms, but it's never seemed to be worth their bother... nearly a decade later, nothing has changed.

time consuming

When I paid at the beginning, I had the impression that I was paying for an e-file option. So therefore, when I got to the review at the end and it appeared on several screens that I could, it was frustrating to not be able to e-file. One IRS link said it was an outage for e-file, then I circled back to your page and it appeared to be an option again. This run around was irritating. Also, I was working on my 2013, so having dates and limits for returns flagged as 2015 or other years, was confusing. Simply update the year field with the year the client is working on currently. Isn't that reasonable?
What's great about it: like the questions-simplicity
What's not so great: did not learn that e-file was not available until the end

1099 misc

the instructions forbid using a 1099 misc in "other income" this little flaw cost me fines, interest, and 2 trips to my local IRS office not to mention months of stress I was very disappointed this year and I have been a loyal customer since day one
What's great about it: all except handling of line 3 on 1099 misc
What's not so great: this income was retirement income and should have beenplaced on line 21

Makes Taxes a Snap

I love the program. It makes getting every deduction you're entitled to a snap to find.

Oh, this was so much easier than I expected. I will be doing my own taxes from here on out! The step-by-step made this project possible.
What's great about it: Ease, help, definitions, look (font, design), step-by-step
What's not so great: IRA section was very difficult
