Form 8379 Injured Spouse
on February 7, 2016
Posted by: michsnail
There is a significant difference between the "Injured spouse" and "Innocent spouse" forms AND reasons for needing one or the other. The IRS's titles for the two forms is backwards, leading to confusion between which applies to an individuals situation. This is NOT Intuit's fault, nor within Intuits realm of responsibility.
I MUST file the Injured spouse form EVERY YEAR, in order to keep Child support from claiming MY refunds, despite my spouse having ZERO income reported on our joint Tax returns. I KNOW which form I need, yet the Turbo Tax process was absolutely painful, in order for me to FIND my way to it.
I should NOT have to search the support web site, in order to find out how to "bypass" the innocent spouse indoctrination form (questionnaire), and finally access the Injured spouse process!
PLEASE!!! For the love of god, provide a simple (easy to find) link to ALL unique forms required by each individual situation. Intuits interview process PER situation is GREAT! However, in THUS situation, DON'T make me enter a ton of information for an UNRELATED form, making it appear I must do so in order to obtain access to a completely unrelated process (form).
Many, like myself, KNOW we need to file form 8379!
WHY can't we simply search for "FORM 8379" and enter the Interview process for THAT form, without having the "INNOCENT SPOUSE" interview creating a time wasting, confusing and convoluted headache, to get to what we need?
What's great about it: TurboTax DOES get you there
What's not so great: Getting to form 8379 is a confusing and convoluted process
Pros: I moved

Excellent service
on February 7, 2016

Having owned small businesses, been a real estate investor, and always doing my own returns for over 30 years, I just can't say enough as to how this service has simplified filing taxes. Pretty incredible.
What's great about it: Complete and easy
What's not so great: Originally said "None." But having to create a nickname for this review has wasted more time than doing my taxes.

Not a good deal for out of state students
on February 7, 2016

If you have a student who lives in one state but does work-study or has income in anther, find a different program. Turbo Tax adds up for these college kids who need to file. It's a shame, really. As if tuition wasn't expensive enough.
What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: Expensive

Really Easy Refund
on February 7, 2016

Recommend it to anyone that doesn't have a complicated financial situation, and perhaps in that case, it still might be doable?
What's great about it: The flow of the process was effortless.
What's not so great: All forms to agree to and sign at the end. Nothing with actual tax process info collection.

My return is not complicated but this process is thorough enough that it gives me the confidence that I'm not missing any opportunities.
What's great about it: good explainations along the way
What's not so great: None for a simple return like mine
