Best Tax Software
on February 5, 2016

I am a longtime user of Turbo Tax and believe it to be the best tax software available. It is easy to use and allows flexibility in how a person uses it.
I dislike the change to Deluxe that removed some capability requiring an upgrade to a more expensive version.
Overall, I think it is hard to go wrong with Turbo Tax. In my experience, it grows better year by year (except as noted above).
What's great about it: Easy and Intuitive
What's not so great: Not a fan of the changes to Deluxe requiring a more expensive version
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

This was my first time filing on my own and it could not have been any easier. Step by step instructions, box by box matched up with the W-2 forms making it a no-brainer. All the way through Review and file.
What's great about it: Simplicity
What's not so great: State form was a little unclear
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Another Great Year

We do a lot of donating of old clothes, household goods, etc. By using It's Deductible during the year the chore of itemized deductions is broken into easily-performed short tasks. So when I'm actually preparing my taxes it's just a couple hours of rummaging through my records and I'm ready to file.
What's great about it: It's Deductible
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Some things were not as clear in the 2015 version. For example, it was really unclear where my civil service 1099 was supposed to be entered and my wife's Social Security 1099. I used a different computer to enter 2011 thru 2014 and when the prior year was present in that computer, all my previous data was available for the new year. The 2015 version showed it was downloading 2014 data but almost none of my data was shown. It had no info for my prior year deductions like charitable deductions or interest and taxes.
What's great about it: Clear prompts and easy to understand language
What's not so great: A few unclear places. No download of 2014 data since I used a different computer

I was a little disappointed that i had to leave the deductions for student loans to get to the part where I could put in my loan payments for the year. also when I bought the program I thought State was included which would entail e-filing as well but it was still extra. which I only bought it because I thought full state processing was included. it was a bit easy to run through everything because I was able to pull up my old refund and all that information which was nice.
What's great about it: easy to sync W-2 forms so less filling things out
What's not so great: deductions not as easy to use, e-file not included
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Somewhat Unhappy

Immediately I was disappointed that TT would not import my 2014 information from H&R Block. I found Block program a little easier to use but the end result of both programs was identical. For me it will come down to a matter of price for which program I'll use in the future.
What's great about it: Fairly easy to complete
What's not so great: Did Not Transfer 2014 Information

Finished My Taxes

I like that turbo tax is able to roll over my information from previous years. Then it just looks at what has changed or what might have changed. It gives the options of going through uncommon situations but you you can also take a quick look and see if they would apply or not. If they don't, you can move forward to the next area. I feel as if all possible scenarios are covered.
What's great about it: I was able to complete my taxes in one day. It is able to roll over information from previous year.
