Would have lost over $4,000 if I used turbo tax
on August 20, 2016
Posted by: AndyKrafthefer
I experimented with using Turbo Tax this year, because my tax situation is so simple now. So, I also had an accountant do my taxes and I compared the results. Turbo Tax calculated my federal return at $350. My accountant calculated my return to be $4776!
I don't know if it was a mistake on my part or Turbo Tax's part. I can not see my tax return without printing it, and do not have a printer anymore as I am living in an RV. I could not find a way to view my return. Only to print it.
So, not happy with the outcome, and the inability to view it on my computer. I won't give them another chance.

I was disappointed that I could not get all the forms that I needed to file my taxes. I had to print your form and then add additional forms to file.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Did not have all the forms that I neeeded

TTAX Deluxe: Slipped Back from Slam-Dunk Status
on August 21, 2016
Posted by: RestonBikeRider
My review is of the CD version of Deluxe, not of the purely on-line version. I've used TurboTax for more than 20 years. It used to be a clear winner of the field of DIY tax software but has regressed in my opinion. It is more intuitive and less explicit in design and menu tools (time-waster), and opaque and tricky at the end in filing and printing. Slicing and dicing tiers of the software in marketing creates indecision and frustration (instead of delight) with the product. These shortcomings become a drag on an otherwise indispensable tax-filing aid for DIY filers and increase uncertainty and therefore time used in getting to the end. The complexity of the tax system and new issues like ticking off ACA requirements puts a huge burden on Intuit software writers, so I empathize with them about that. But the TTAX product needs to be clear, smooth and trouble-free for the home user. Friends tell me competing brands are getting better while holding their prices in line.
What's great about it: Recovery of past year's data, breadth of needed forms, accuracy of calculations, cogency of most help files.
What's not so great: Sticky and time-waster if you try to go back and forth between step-by-step and forms, fails with some LP K-1 forms.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Best year to Navigate
on August 21, 2016

Ive been using TurboTax since 2010, and this by far was the easiest to navigate. Every year the improvements have made it easier to understand than the prior year. This by far was the year I found it to be very clear and easy. Im glad TurboTax is listening to users and making great and easy improvements for anyone to do their own taxes!

Had technical trouble on my first attempt at installing on one home computer. Had to try on a different one but that one went well.
What's great about it: Liked that I could reload on another computer
What's not so great: Would have liked support available on weekends
