I don't know it it's me or if the program could be more user friendly. Every year, I seem to make some kind of major mistake. I find starting over is the only way to fix my mistake.
What's great about it: No paying outrageous rates!
What's not so great: It took 2 tries to get it right... Time consuming...

Tax Payment Failed

The company that you used to pay my $35. Mass. Income Tax generated a check that bounced.Then I sent the DOR a personal check. Recently I've been receiving Demands for Payment from the State, but the form didn't say what it was for. A second Demand has arrived, and now my bill is over $60. I've discovered that this Penalty is for the processing of a bounced check.
I will not let you use this company in future to handle payments or receipts.
Your rating would 5 stars if I hadn't had to deal with this nonsense and added expense.

What's great about it: Guided assisted is fantastic and makes filing your taxes a breeze

Turbo Tax-No longer the Hands Down Leader

I have used Deluxe for decades; I use the forums to solve problems occasionally but really love that they are there to search for things like covering shorts. I tried upgraded versions when pricing was similar and found little to drive me to the more comprehensive version until a prior' years sneaky move to remove features in Deluxe that were key to me. Intuit reversed course and provided the upgraded version but it has left a taste the corporate conscious has moved from a small user oriented software group to one more like the monolith that Oracle has become. This year, I could not find several things. Farm Rental, for example. It is not with Farm Operations and the hint to go elsewhere and find was worthless. Even though it was a carry forward topic, there was nothing under Rentals where the hint pointed; tried several times to click on Rentals topic and then say no to work an apartment rental to be thrown out as 'done' with the topic.. I assumed they just removed it unless I upgraded to Premier or Home and Business. I finally opened forms, researched the form number needed, enter numbers on the form, then went back to the Step-by-Step see what topics I had modified and proceeded from there.
Lastly, a continuing complaint: I know that each year is a new situation for taxes and expect to buy new software for that year. But, I have software still in use still Windows 3.1 so it really hacks me off that I have to upgrade Quicken to import many accounts into Turbo Tax. There is no Quicken feature upgrade needed and I just have to pay AGAIN and then reconfigure for my preference use, a real frustrating time waster. I think this time I might try another supplier.

What's great about it: Used for literally decades: familiar and carries history forward generally well
What's not so great: Not as friendly as before

I've used TurboTax for more years now than I can remember. I wouldn't even think of using any other tax preparation software.
