I have been buying Turbo Tax Deluxe for more than five years. It always contained one State return for free. This year there was no free State program to prepare a state tax return.
I need to prepare a state return.

Will continue to use Turbotax
What's great about it: All
What's not so great: A few spots where I wasn't sure whether to 'X' from the page or was there a back button.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Update on TT experience e
on April 19, 2016

I just finished state and have additional comments, the transfer from Fed to State went very well and covered the necessary "bases".
However, there are situations where the IRS does not require a field to be populated but TT flags the blank field as an error - even when their own text says it can be empty. If they miss this, what else might they miss.
Niggling editorial comment - why does TT switch from "No" on the left column to "No" on the right column (screen to screen). please be consistent - makes working through the forms easier.

Cheers
What's great about it: seamless import, runs on MAC
What's not so great: doesn't run on Linux, looses info for charitable deductions, requires input when IRS does not

Extremely Helpful

When my electronic filing was rejecter for a filing error on my part, I was notified immediately. Turbo Tax guided me through the necessary steps to make the correction at no additional charge. They re-filed my tax return as soon as I had made the corrections. I will definitely continue using Turbo Tax for future filing.
What's great about it: When my electronic file was rejected, Intuit took proper action to notify me and walked me through the correction.
What's not so great: Sometimes I found some of the instructions required a bit of attention to understand them.

Getting a little bit too expensive when you must pay for state filing software and the state filing fee.

Best software ever!

Leads step by step to cover all the areas, provides links to Federal forms and detailed instructions, rechecks entries throughout process, provides explanations for what is and is not allowed. Have used Turbo tax for many years, and have noted all the updates so the return follows current tax law for Federal and State. Wouldn't use anything else!
What's great about it: Very thorough, maximized refund
What's not so great: None

Unsure About My Roth Distributions V Contributions
on April 19, 2016
Posted by: TurboTaxGretch3
In the past, I was able to "see" that I wasn't double-taxed on Roth distributions that I re-contributed back into my Roth IRA before April 15 of the following year (because I'm less than 59.5 years old, which would be a "penalty," too!).
This year, it seemed that I was "slightly taxed," however, when I showed that I "returned" the "withdrawn" amount "in full" back into the Roth (basically I was "borrowing" from my Roth)?
Doesn't matter going forward, though, because from now on I'm going to "leave the Roth alone," i.e., NOT withdraw any distributions anymore, until I reach the age where there will be no penalties, nor should there ever be another tax on something I've already paid taxes on!
What's great about it: Love TurboTax: it's the fastest, most accurate way to do your taxes!
What's not so great: This year (2015 taxes done in 2016), however, I'm not sure if actually got taxed on previously taxed Roth distribution??
Pros: I bought or sold investments
