ACTUAL FILING
on April 18, 2016

I found it difficult when it came to adding a card to pay the filing of the state taxes. Could not get passed using a credit card. I finally skipped that section and it took me to the credit card information page.

Turbo Tax is my go to product to help get me through the yearend process. It's straight forward and easy to follow and asks leading questions to always point me in the right direction to filling out the proper forms. It's a reliable product that I count on to reduce my tax-related stress.
What's great about it: Trustworthy Product that is very easy to use and makes the annual pain process more bearable.
What's not so great: If only turbo tax could answer the questions for me...just dreaming of course.

Step by step guide is helpful. A thorough completion will take a few hours. You do not need to be an accountant to complete a simple return.
What's great about it: step by step guide
What's not so great: timely

Turbotax 2015 the good, the bad, the ugly
on April 18, 2016

I have used Turbo Tax for many years, and I am finding that the program costs more and does a lot less. This year was minimally acceptable. It asked me questions that were not explained and which I had no or little basis to answer. There were three of four important times this occurred.
The product has benefits but is getting weaker ( and considerably more costly) to the point that I will seriously be looking at alternate options for next year. If you are going to raise the cost of your product then yo had better add value to that.
There is more but I really do appreciate the opportunity to give meaningful feed back. Now I hope that you listen.
I have been happy with the product until the last couple of years.
What's great about it: I like the importing of data from the previous year
What's not so great: It does not get all the information and asks some questions about things that already have the data for.

Lose the ads or lower the price

Why do I need to be presented with all Intuit products during something as important and exacting as a tax return?
My tax return required a paper filing. Why does the program use a third party app to present me with an option for printing/saving return for my records and not one to print for filing? Somewhere it says print the return for filing and then does a switch.
I've noticed this ever since they started using Adobe to print. Please, you can do better than that. Tax software doesn't need a rewrite every year. Throw an engineer on it.
What's great about it: Mostly idiot proof. Nothing can be idiot proof
What's not so great: Ads for any and all Intuit products. Final print of forms is lacking

I had to force it to file Schedule C
on April 18, 2016

I had to force this software to file Schedule C. It never asked me when I told it I had a 1099, it just filed the 1099 like it was a W-2, it put a comment on the screen that said, "We'll come back to this later" and it never did. I had to go back and force it to file Schedule C, then erase all of my expenses and retype them into the Schedule C by hand.
What's great about it: In general it is easy to use.
What's not so great: It doesn't do complex tasks unless you force it.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
